My Playlists Contain 100s of Fire Making Videos... This is dangerous! Please wear gloves and all the personal protective equipment that you deem necessary. If you attempt this technique, you do so being fairly warned and at your own risk! I've always wanted to try this since seeing it done on KZbin. I already, occasionally, take wine bottles, wrap them in cloth, and break them with a hammer to use the bottom to scrape a ferro rod. Also, now that I've been experimenting with Bipolar Percussion, I've been wanting to try it on a bottle's bottom. Well today, in this video, I take care of all those "want to's". I hate that I ddn't get the camera turned on and capture my first ever success with a brown beer bottle that I found just yesterday. So aggravating!!!... I went back through the woods and found an old glass Pepsi bottle. Then I decided to use the Yoohoo bottle that we just used in a recent video. I'm glad I got the 2nd chance to show you this technique. Watch me break these 2 bottoms out, use them to ferro rod ignite pine needles, and make some very nice usable blades with the Bipolar percussion technique... Please SUBSCRIBE at the end of the video. My uncle and grandfather both claimed there was always one sharp edge on a shard of glass. They also claimed that during the depression men commonly shaved with the broken glass shards.

I wouldn't be surprised if some types of glass break like that. Interesting!

If your theory is right then, it should work with the same water level with the cap on. Have you tried that ?.

No. I trust the other peoples experience and mine when it comes to this cavitation experiment.

I can't make my mind conceive of that bottle going down without the liquid going up, some. With the cap on, it would cause resistance to the water coming up because it's compressing that air up top. I bet it doesn't work as easily with the cap on. He was using a mallet. He doesn't know which way is easiest. I saw the same professor video and backyard scientist videos that you did.

David: Put a small rock inside the bottle and shake up and down. In a few seconds the bottle bottom will fall right off. Don't let the sharp bottom fall on your foot and cut you. Don't ask me how I learned this when I was 13. Please be careful when trying my technique.

I was wondering what the practical use for a glass bottle bottom would be and sure enough, you taught me. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us all, God bless.

Great video as usual! Very informative! Breaking the bottom out of glasses bottles can be very dangerous!

David I used to do that when I worked at a Pepsi plant in 1968 but did not understand the physics of it. I did not leave enough air in them and it was harder.
@DavidWestBgood2ppl5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I bet those thicker bottles were even harder to break the bottoms out of.

I wonder if the sides of the bottle that broke out would give you a little longer blade to saw with. Might last a little longer just due to surface area?

Edge angles that big are not all that sharp.

does Yoohoo know about this product placement and how they are saving lives?... and not just with the vitamins and minerals

sorry to load up the comments but have you tried knapping the glass for jagged edge?... like for a one shot arrow head? great video I love these experiments
