Hand Building Pottery For Beginners - Pottery Bowl With Swirl Designs

This is Troy's FAVORITE pottery piece! Watch how he hand builds this ceramic bowl:
After rolling out a slab of clay, Troy lays it out over an oval pottery form. He presses and pats down the clay against the form to get it in the right bowl shape. He cuts off the extra clay then smooths down any imperfections with a damp sponge. Then he uses a swirled design pottery tool to imprint the swirls into the outside of the bowl in multiple layers. Then he weighs out and rolls 4 spheres of clay for the feet, and scores and slips them to the bottom fo the bowl. Troy trick: use a leveler on a board to appropriately level out the feet so the bowl lays flat once flipped over.
