I'm asking my husband for hand carders for Christmas to process my English Angora fiber. I see many that are for fine wool 109 tpi. Do you recommend trying to find a finer carder instead?

These chats are so endearing and thought-provoking and interesting. 💚

I like your views on spinning. Researching only takes you as far as head knowledge but doing the prep work and spinning gets you the experience and true knowledge of what works for you. I started out with Ashford hand carders but purchased the Howard Brush 190 TPI and love them!

Thanks Steph! Just so you know, I was carding right along with you as I watched your video. You inspire me and it's almost like being in person with a friend doing the same thing. Well, it's a Covid thing.

Thank you for watching. Working with wool brings time to reflect. An unintended benefit of fiber arts! Do you hand card?

@@RabbitryandYarns I do hand card small amounts of alpaca but tend to do larger amounts on my Ashford drum carder, feeding onto one side of the drum and then after removing splitting the roving in two and pre drafting as I roll it around my hand in a little ball . I am a person who has worried my whole life about needless stuff and it's lovely to hear your no fuss approach to things. I wish you so much success Thank you

@@RabbitryandYarns Yes, I have french Angoras and Satinangoras. Hopefully I get a couple of litters soon. 😍 Since a couple of months I also have 3 Alpacas. Love to prepare and spin wool and learn more about it every day. 😊 I don't run a business though, I only do it cause I love animals, wool and handicraft. 😊❤️

Some folks say you need to keep the wool going in the same direction (tips align with tips, cut ends stay next to cut ends). You don’t seem to do that. I have a bunch of cut English angora cut wool but wasn’t meticulous with keeping it directional like that. Does your carding methods allow for less organized collection like mine?
@RabbitryandYarns Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question. Yes, my method is not for perfect alignment. It can be a mixed up blend, and the result is lovely. :) Sometimes, meticulous is not the only way. Cheers!

You are welcome. Have you been able to hand card recently?
@creativegenecircle4 жыл бұрын
What are your staple lengths... I find mine are anywhere from 1-3” .... all mixed together... or do you try sorting them when you clip
@RabbitryandYarns3 жыл бұрын
I like 3 inches, with no less than 2 and no more than 5. It is quite a range and they all get blended together. I do sort any fiber less than 2 inches out when clipping and carding.

I like you how card, I recently got carders so I can do something with my Angora bunnies fur. How many inches (of fur) is too short to card?
@RabbitryandYarns3 жыл бұрын
You certainly can card fibers an inch or so, however, I do not prefer this. I like 3 inches, no less than 2 inches.
