Great vid. I’m a weekend warrior when it comes to framing ect. I don’t pay anyone to build of fix anything for me. I’ve always struggled with getting my rafters right. Any tips?

For just a common rafter you first get your span. Chop that in half to get your run. Subtract for the ridge. Figure out your rise and diagonal on a calculator given your pitch. Always double check your numbers. Cut your ridge cut first. Pull your diagonal number. Figure out what your HAP (height above plate) is going to be. Mark out your birds mouth and tail. Cut that first pattern like a careful grandma. You want that thing to be pretty. And just use that pattern for the rest of them👍

Northwest indiana. The customs that we build and are built in my area are mostly hand cut still. However all the cooker cutter homes are pretty much all truss around here

Wouldn't your boots get wet from the snow?

If I’m being honest, I never really noticed it. Unless I actually stepped in a puddle, my boots never really got “soaked” from the snow. I’ve also worn vans in the snow on multiple occasions. I double sock and stay moving, it never seems to slow me down.

Another video about craftsmen who think they are invulnerable. I have to assume that safety in the workplace is not something that is in high demand, walking on top of the wall and sweeping snow on an icy surface without safety and crawling up on the outside of the scaffolding right by the hole down to the lower floor is. When I see how Americans make use of security in the workplace, I must admit, as we work in Denmark and make use of security, makes our children, wife / girlfriend are 99.9 percent sure that we come home every day without injuries ...

Hey thanks for the comment. Let me start by saying I agree with you. It is something I’ll always strive to get better at. However there are certain situations where precautions like that may not be completely necessary. I assure you that I am only doing the things I’m doing because I am a comfortable doing them. There are days where I don’t dare go on a wall. I do what is in my means and nothing more. The guys I work for make it very clear that safety takes priority. The way I observed other people in this trade when I was learning is a big factor in my opinion. It taught me be efficient when I had the chance to. I’ve seen guys from other crews do things you couldn’t imagine. It’s all about perspective in my eyes. I know I’m being safer than the worst of them. I know I’m being reckless in comparison to the best of them. Crews work differently all over the world. Once again, I’ll never do something I’m not comfortable doing. Much respect👍
