In this video I am sharing a Crewel or Jacobean Embroidery project, designed by Brenda Sortwell of 'The Needlewoman's Studio' on Etsy.
Share in the comment section if you have a project that is taking time or you are meeting a brick wall?
We might be able to help with encouragement:)))
We started the project in September 2018. (time flies!). The kit contained the linen fabric twill, 46 Appleton's Wools, 18 greens! (link below to these), beautiful in depth enriched instructions. We met once a month on a Friday, for the next section of the embroidery and excellent tuition from Brenda about the history and the stitches. The project contains 11 Stitches, in many combinations. What lovely days of stitch and sharing we had.
Some continued the project on those sessions others chose to enjoy the other beautiful kits Brenda has for gifts and the challenge of new stitches and patterns while continuing the 'Winter Project' in their own time. You can see some of the beautiful kits on Brenda"s Etsy shop link below.
I had to put the Project on the back burner for several winters only dipping into it ever now and then but September 2022 I picked it up again and got stuck in vowing to enjoy and finish it for December 2023, my mums 80th Birthday.
Every Project has its sticking point and I hit the first one after completing the first section, the Pink Flower had so many layers and directional stitches I felt lost. I know its embroidery but every project has parts where you want to give up and put it aside. Because I had a reason to finish this, made out of love for Mum. I had to find ways to get over the hurdles. Taking each section bit by bit and telling myself just this bit and setting a time. It worked although on Mums Birthday I was one section short of finishing but she got the gist. By 29th of January 2023 I had completed and filmed the process and so share this video with you.
*Mum loves her cushion and it takes pride of place on her bed so every morning she sees and enjoys it.
While stitching this piece it gave me many ideas for future projects.
Have you got a project that is taking you time?
This link is to Appleton Wools a lovely green selection, some of which I used in this project.
