Tbh this song is super relatable (if we go by my interpretation lol)-- for me it's about someone who had a lot of expectations in the past. Like, a gifted kid or a highly powerful business executive or whatever. When said person starts showing signs of mental illness, they aren't believed by anyone in their lives because there's no way, they were so smart and so gifted. So. This person decides to prove it and take down anyone who was in their way and/or close to them. They feel like they need to hit rock bottom in order for people to believe them. Which. Relatable.

I have a similar interpretation, which is that they believe they do not believe they have the illness in the first place. They believe they are somehow faking it, believing that they do not show enough signs. I may be projecting a bit though as that is how I felt about depression and gender dysphoria for a few years and the reason why I didn’t seek help for a while.

i've loved this song a long time but on this listen through it just, completely hit me to the core. i'm constantly told that my recollection of the past is completely wrong, but i didn't ruin my relationship with these people i can't even leave yet just for fun. and it feels like they'll never believe for a moment how much they've hurt me, until i'm completely shattered. any time i'm even a little happy, they say i'm a monster and that i don't even care about them. and if i'm upset or scared or hurting, they say it's from nowhere and that i need to stop. it makes me want to do something big enough they can't say they're the only ones in pain anymore. but it'll be enough to just never talk to them again. originally i came out as genderfluid and was okay with they/them, but now that i don't identify that way anymore and i want to use just he/him.... i asked one of them if me calling them they/them would be the same, and they said yes. and then the moment i followed through with it, they decide actually that it's different and that i should let them call me the pronouns that give me dysphoria if I'm "just calling them whatever i want." there's so many other horrible manipulative things they've both done, and i'm just glad i finally have an escape plan. i was a gifted kid, and also had no idea or feelings of dysphoria until i was way older.. so my parents basically think that I "caught" being trans from old friends..
