I have a bunch of Petoskey stones I actually pulled from the water in Petoskey, MI where my best friend's grandmother's lived. I went with her and her father. They're Native American, he made Native jewelery. (He's passed now, this was when I was young.) He taught me to rub my thumb on my forehead, then massage the stone with the natural oils. (Small stones) no sanding or polishing, I still have my stones. (30 years ago)

The best way to polish on the run 👍 Always wash the stone first or else you might seal dirty in the cracks XP

I've used regular dry 3M sandpaper all the way up to 3,000 grit and didn't need any polish and had a very nice shine

I have never used that Dremel polish. Aluminum oxide on denim works well, or if you have some Zam, that works really well with a felt wheel on your Dremel.

For a hand polish and just figuring out your technique it’s great!!

for better polishing 1st tip is you should start with first sandpapper just to get stones, metasl, or plastics surface very flat, like 180-220p. 2nd tip use next sandpapper about 80 percent smoother(if u used 200p now use 360-380p

You should try some Zam polish. It does a great job on softer stones.

How long does it usually take to do a stone from start to finish 🤔

This is the first time I polished one by hand like this, took a couple hours.

I haven't used shellac, just polishing compounds. I wish I was a chemist, I would have all kinds of ideas for rocks!

These rocks are so pretty, I agree. The fossilized coral that makes up these rocks date back 350 million years! So incredible to work with something that old.

Cerium oxide on a round piece of shag rug glued to a spin disc, kept moist with combination of water & small amount of liquid dishsoap in a spray bottle has worked wonderfully well for me for many years. When I was cutting-polishing stones, this method worked especislly well with agates/jaspers or anything, for the most part, in the Mohs scale, 7-7.5. If stones have hardnesses under Mohs 7 or less in the same stone, then when polishing using this method, the polish finish might be undercut. Have fun if you decide to try this method.

Looks like burn marks from the dremel? The waves should not be there. Trying to be constructive, not critical.
