I don't know if you're still giving comments for this video song, what kind of charcoal do you use for these black powder rockets. Is it just regular or airflow hardwood charcoal? I'm using Eastern red cedar and I'm getting tons of Cato's
@nedgorski3 ай бұрын
Hi, Pat. I use hot ERCedar BP in nozzleless BP motors, using the nozzleless motor propellant which has some mineral oil in it. I've been able to avoid CATO's with those motors.

Hello Ned, do you wet the black powder with 1% of water before hand ramming or pressing??
@accipiternisus6496 жыл бұрын
Fredy smith no.just granulate your bp without dextrin.Only water and small mesh screen.That will remove dust and keep small particles together

Yeh with his bp rocket mix he uses 1 half percent of water in 100g batch that works out to b around 3 sprays. ..

I use that Mix for my rockets: 60 kno3, 25 charcoal, 15 sulfur. the charcoal tail of the rocket was very short-lived. Would it help if I wet the mixture beforehand and let it dry again and then ram it into the rocket motor so that the potassium nitrate can suck into the charcoal and thereby give it a longer tail? I Hope my english is okay
@nedgorski3 жыл бұрын
I'd actually suggest switching to a mix of fine and coarse charcoal, and perhaps using a bit more KNO3 and a bit less charcoal. Some experimenting and dialing-in will be required. Good luck.

Hey Ned, love your videos!! I was wondering, do you screenmix or mill the base components for the W39J delay? Been wanting to use it in my 1lb rockets. Also, do you include the dextrin as well? - Thanks!!

Hey Ned I've been making 1 pound rockets with Caleb's universal core burner tool set 66.67-19.05-9.52 mix I ball milled about 5 hours they do pretty good I'm still wandering if could load them with an 75-15-10 mix and get a flight I'm also thinking about trying out some whistle mix is there an pressure chart for the one ton arbor press corresponding with torque wrench settings?

I only make 4oz rockets though, but in my experience nozzeled rockets with 75-15-10 fuels will always 100% CATO. Unless you're going nozzleless then it'll be fine

hello, sorry for that question , i don't understand that: load no more than one ID of comp per increment, if i have a rocket tool 1lb: i must load 3/4 of teaspoon per increment? thanks a lot...

When rammed, the added increment should be no taller than one tube ID tall. I prefer 1/2 to 3/4 ID tall, though.

In the website, in an article about charcoal tailed, cored motors, I have reproduced a chart from Hartdt's "Pyrotechnics", which lists the dimensions for all the various size motors, Hayden. That's the standard from which the toolmakers diverge very little.

Ned, love all your Tutorials ! My question is why and when i should using an Endburner instead of a Coreburner ? Is the BP composition for EB´s different then for CB´s ? Thank you so much for a short answer. All the very best to you. Ralph .
@leooglecevac45867 жыл бұрын
IRC Rocketeer IRC Rocketeer End burners are really not ever used in fire working because core burners are simply better and allow more room for adjustment of the fuel. In answer to your second question yes the fuels are different. End burner fuel is much more powerful and closer to straight BP in composition. The most common core burner comp is 60:20:10 and I'm not sure of the EB comps off the top of my head but a google search would find the info you need. Also, although I did answer this question, Ned will only really answer question he believes deserve an answer, in this case a google search would have easily found the answer and as such there was no reason to ask it unless for some reason you couldn't find the answer by other means. Just in the future look yourself before asking.

IRC, endburners can be used as stand-alone rockets, but they'll only lift a small/light payload, compared to a core-burner. Endburners really come into their own as long-duration-thrust motors on a girandola. The propellant in an endburner is typically a hot BP one, compared to a less powerful propellant used in a core burner. I hope that helps. ned
@leooglecevac45867 жыл бұрын
ned gorski I stand corrected you did get a reply! I apologise for my comments saying they are basically never used I was unaware of there use on griandolas although it would make sense I have never done any research on griandolas and how they are lifted.

Nope, no moisture. Real, pure bentonite clay will consolidate nicely, and solidly, when rammed or pressed. Melted wax can be added to it to assist in that, too.

Hello Ned. Whether after whipping one part of the fuel in the engine, a small part of the fuel should fall out after flip the engine?
@rskrks4 жыл бұрын
If the rammers fit nicely in the tube and spindle there shouldnt be much falling out. If you get alot of fuel not being compressed and fall out thats not good, you could have gaps on the walls which will lead the rocket to fail.
