Ned, on the Wolter Pyro Tools, the PDF on related to the Pressure Conversion Gauges list the required PSIs as 6500 PSI for Black Powder and 8800 PSI for Whistle. Now, I would think (probably incorrectly) that I would need at least a 3 to 4 ton press to achieve that pressure (6500/2000 = 3.25 tons). Does your arbor press create that much pressure? Or is there something in the math related to the smaller areas of rocket diameters that allows that type of pressure to get leveraged from, say, a 2 ton press? Hope my questions make sense.
@nedgorski9 жыл бұрын
HowellHudson Force applied by a press is different than the pounds-per-square-inches pressure (psi) that is applied to the propellant in a motor. The area of the hollow rammer, as compared with a solid one, also has to be taken into consideration. I hope that points you toward the math necessary to clear that all up. Also, making the BP propellant the way shown in the videos, and using shorter increments, necessitates only about 5000 psi on the comp, instead of Rich Wolter's 6500 recommendation. Good tubes can be pressed up to that pressure without being damaged. ned

That's correct, Sven, if a solid rammer is being used. If a hollow rammer, I typically figure the area of the end of the rammer, and therefore the comp it is compressing, is about 0.75 x that of a solid rammer.
