Thank you for this 👍 I have tools that I have inherited from family members. The tool that brought me here is my General No. 131. I started out thinking it was an awl but internet photos showed me it was a reamer. Mine looks very close to your yellow handled one but has the blue (really black) neck part under the yellow screwdriver handle. Not sure how old it is, my family had hand tools from the late 30s. The yellow handle probably means it was from the late 60s/70s. From your videos thumbnail I also recognized those pencil like deburring tools in my possession. Thank you so much for demonstrating what purpose each of these tools have! I now know what they do lol

You actually demonstrated how they are used. The previous video maker just yakked and yakked about the tools, the idiot. Thanks buddy!

I've made some projects where deburring blades were needed. The best ones that I've tried was from Shaviv, Noga and Pferd.

The 4 piece US General set are individually intended for different materials. They work well if you use them on their intended material. For round holes a larger drill bit works great to deburr. Have you run across taper pins? Reaming those holes is a little touchy as the fitment and depth must be precise. They work well.

Only a couple times taper pins are kind of rare however tapers in general in the machine shop or a standard for tool and workholding

@@intjonmiller No, they're just tapered reamers for thin sheet metal; not very good for chamfering. I have some tapered pin reamers. They come in very small incremental sizes and the angle is much more shallow. The fixed sight on an M-4/AR-15/M16 is held on with a tapered pin. Working on the restoration of the guns for a battleship we run across tapered pins regularly. Designers were very fond of them 100 years ago.

Do they make those pen style without swivel head? Or what would be good for deburring a hole on the “inner” side of a piece of metal? The side opposite where you drilled the hole from? The piece is too small & enclosed so its not like I can just flip it around

The thought that some of those are designed in a way so you have to drag a very sharp blade towards your body, or worse - your hands and fingers, annoys me. Like, I got two left hands but I need to get rid of rests of brim from my 3D prints and the thought of moving a blade towards me designed to cut metal isn't too encouraging.

Catus--I think the "Sha-viv" deburring tool (Mango II) might be pronounced "Sha-veev"; however, no big deal either way. I imagine the tips are not standardized to force you to buy one manufacturer's cutting bits, the same as with cordless batteries not being usable across all brands. Most of us think that's stupid and only done to insure we continue to buy one manufacturer's products, no matter how poorly they may perform. I suspect the manufacturers' official reason for that is to insure "brand loyalty". Fortunately, deburring handles and bits aren't terribly expensive, so if you get a lemon, it's not a big deal to change brands.
