By far best video. Thanks for speaking clearly, excellent choice of bright thread and dull fabric so we can see what is going on with the thread. Camera is positioned nicely, too.

@CrysalisHooper Hi there. There is no need to put a knot next to the needle. If you did, it might prevent you from pulling the rest of the thread through the fabric. Just one knot at the very end of the thread is all you need.

the knotting at the end was very helpful! thanks! I've always had trouble with knotting my thread and knotting it at the end. also why not just use a needle threader when you thread the needle?

Professor Pincushion what's the secret to getting your knot to "build?" I have a hard time building up a large knot. I usually end up with 4-6 small knots at the end of my thread and keep knotting until they get all bunched up together in one big knot. by that time it's a hot mess.

It is actually my daughter Patience using my account to watch videos on learning new things. This is one of those things. I am her 41 year old dad, lol Patience is home schooled, so we spend a lot of free time together doing projects and suck, and I try to encourage her in her pursuits.

This is strange to watch, because I was always taught that you never knot your thread - you stitch over it. The bump can be felt through the cloth, and shows.

I'm sorry But I put thread through needle w/a 4in tail and no knot at the needle?? Just at the other end? How does the needle stay on? I just don't wanna start and realize Iv'e screwed up lol
@ProfessorPincushion
@ProfessorPincushion 8 жыл бұрын
+Radical Rob That's correct, there's no knot at the needle. It stays by how you hold the needle, by holding over the eye when you're pulling it through. It may feel awkward at first, but it just takes practice before you're not even thinking about it anymore. :)

When pulling the thread through the fabric, make sure you pinch the needle right at the eye. It just takes practice for it, and your problem is actually really common with a lot of beginners. Don't give up! :)
