Thanks James, I got tired of working on videos for weeks on end so I just shot it with two cameras going to give it some movement and keep it bouncing then threw it together. We should do another collab soon ;)

I have watched hundreds of woodworking videos watch them everyday and this one video has given some of the best advice yet I got into woodworking truly about 8 months ago Granite all I make is jewelry boxes stuff like that small stuff and lately all I can think about is the next expensive tool that I need to get and are really don't need it when I should be thinking simple
@bearkatwood63547 жыл бұрын
Jewelry can be trickier than furniture. The attention to detail has to be there more. Thank you very much for watching.

Nicely done! This reminds me of the Queen Ann desk project I made years ago. Being new to wood working and carving, I ended up using a dremal with a cutting bit for the shaping of the legs and claw foot. Anyhow, good video.

Thanks for the video(not even finished watching,) and ordered the shinto rap from Amazon(maybe they should thank you too.) Will be attacking a tradional Norman continuous hand rail when I attempt(am an amateur, just ask James Wright,) to modify the stair case in our old farm in Normandy. What an aide this tool should/will be! cheers...rr

This is the video you should have done when you can put an amazon affiliate link in the description. That program can be very lucrative. Love the work btw, look forward to more project videos.

I would love to learn how to make money doing this, but I think I am a bit too lazy ;) while you can get some of the things I use from amazon, most come from boutique tool makers. Thanks.

You should do a video on how you setup the boggs spoke shaves. I have a hard time getting those things cutting right :) You do amazing work.
@bearkatwood63548 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I was a little surprised that you have trouble with the boggs shave. I didn't need to tune up any that I have gotten. I will try to do a video on tuning up a shave soon. Thanks again.

Do you use power tools for gross removal? Hours? How many in sculpting the chair? Thanks!
@bearkatwood63548 жыл бұрын
I do like to use power tools when I am roughing out the parts. I like to call it lowest common denominator woodworking as "Hybrid" is over-used ;) Get it done the most efficient way possible, if that means power tools, great if not do it with hand tools which can sometimes be faster. The hours vary for each project, like this one will probably be around 30 hours total. Thanks for watching.

Thanks! Looking for a half round spoke shave I found Kunz??? on Amazon. Criticism was needed a lot of fine tuning. Price was good, Also checked out Curtis Buchanan.

What sort of acid was that - "for livening up" files? BTW A couple of problems having "a surplus" of tools: keeping them all sharp, adjusted & rust free and ii. being able to choose, find and grab the optimum tool for each job (i.e keeping them all at hand). Everybody loves card scrapers - there is hope for mankind yet!
@bearkatwood63547 жыл бұрын
you can soak your files or rasps in muriatic acid for a few hours, but be careful to do it outside or with good ventilation.
@tonyy54827 жыл бұрын
Wow, that was quick! Thanks. I've never heard of muriatic acid but I looked it up and it is hydrochloric acid, which I am more familiar with. Never heard of this technique before but I'm thinking this must work like acid sharpening of fishing hook. I'm wondering if oxalic acid - sometimes sold as "wood bleach" as it helps remove tannin stains - would work; I gather is fairly mild - compared to say hydrochloric acid - but stronger than vinegar (ascetic acid). I suppose concentration would be a factor too.

Just an FYI: You can generally find Muriatic acid where they sell swimming pool maintenance supplies.

how much do you use drawblades (draw knives?)
@bearkatwood63547 жыл бұрын
Sadly not as much as I would like, They are an incredibly effective tool. I do use them quite a bit for roughing out work, but I would like to get in the habit of using them more and learn to use them with the finesse of Peter Galbert. Doubt that will ever happen, but I can hope. Thank you for watching.
@josephKEOarthur7 жыл бұрын
Yeah im looking at tools like Drawblades, other planing type of hand tools. - thanks!
@josephKEOarthur7 жыл бұрын
yeah i always like to see the old school traditional tools used. - but on that other side most of my tools are all Makita (cause of the internal cleanliness of them);
@pyrojarhead238 жыл бұрын
To add to your tool list, the tool and die world use riffler files to assist in the sculpting of dies; although I have never used them on wood, I don't see why they wouldn't work. Here is a link to the Mcmaster page on them: www.mcmaster.com/#hand-files/=16iabnu

I must say that “pepe amazing plan” (Google it) is a wonderful woodworking book. Both beginner and a few experienced carpenter can gain lots of general information from this reading material. I`ve been very surprised how often I use this to look up woods at places like to restore and also salvage spots.
