Handbag Facelift | How I Cleaned & Conditioned the Vachetta on My Vintage Louis Vuitton Speedy 30

Hi Guys! Many people ask me why I like to dye the vachetta on many vintage Louis Vuitton handbags that come into my possession. Actually, when possible, I prefer to restore vintage leather, however in many cases this is not possible due to cracking, severe staining or water marks that won't resolve. Fortunately this was NOT the case with the gorgeous vintage Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 I purchased on eBay. I deliberately spent a little more than normal because I was looking for a bag with dirty but in-tact leather that I could clean to show you how you can take a bag from the verge of uselessness and make it beautiful again.
Many people mistake the super dark, blackened look that vintage leather can have for patina....when in fact, its really just years of dirt and grime COVERING UP the gorgeous golden patina of the leather. There is a reason they call it "honey patina" and that is because it is a golden hue. If you come across a vintage back that has a blackened look to the leather, this is more than likely dirt and it can be removed with careful cleaning. One of the best products for doing this is called Saddle Soap. Many companies make it, but the one I used in the video is Kiwi brand. It is simple to use, and as you can see, very effective. I was also asked to show in a video how I condition my leather, and this again is the perfect opportunity. After a thorough cleaning make sure you condition thoroughly so your leather doesn't get dried out. Thanks for watching!
