What is the difference between deliberate handball and ball to hand? An explanation of the handball rule (Law 12.1 Handling the Ball) in association football/soccer. #handball #offside #VAR
Summary:
The IFAB Laws of the Game defines handball as "the deliberate act of a player making contact with the ball with the hand or arm".
The goalkeeper is exempt from this rule inside their penalty area, but has the same restrictions as any other player outside their box. A ball off the shoulder is not handball.
The following must be considered:
1. The MOVEMENT of the hand towards the ball
2. The distance or PROXIMITY between the opponent and the ball
3. The INITIAL POSITION of the arm

Handball penalty rules need to be revised. I see lots of penalties awarded where there was no unfair advantage for the defending team and sometimes the ball isn't even deflected. We're obviously born with arms so we have to accept that they're attached to our shoulders

I don't think it was handball, especially under the Laws of the Game described in this video. However, as of June 1, 2019, the law will be revised so that any contact with the arm/hand (of the attacking player) in the build-up to a goal will result in the goal being disallowed (regardless of intent).

Yes, it can be a goal. As long as the referee did not blow his whistle already.

So should a goal line handball not be a penalty? How about a cross for an easy tap-in. If I beat the defender to the line and cross it to my wide open teammate across the goal but the defender is flailing to catch up and it hits their hand...is that not a handball/handling the ball?

Depends on their proximity to the ball, and if the "flailing" is deemed by the referee to be an unnatural movement!

It was the right decision because they changed the rules this season. Now, any time the ball makes contact with the arm/hand in the immediate build-up to a goal, intentional or not, the goal will not be allowed to stand.

It's a debatable one. Very close proximity but you could argue the arms were away from the body (i.e. unnatural position)

If the goalkeeper's hands are outside of the box while holding the ball = handball. If part of the ball is outside the box but their hands are not outside the box = not handball.

Depends. If the referee blew the whistle before the goal, it is a penalty and red card. If not, the goal would stand.

We just saw in the Women Worldcup 2019, that a Japanese hand lead to a penalty on one match, but an American hand on a different match lead to nothing. So absolutely no consistency here. I also think that whenever those are happening, referee should go and look at the video straight away. And if he or she needs to look about 5 times to the video, then there’s doubt. And doubt means no foul. Change your rule in between competition, but not during completion.

A footballer has to stay on thier feet, a goalkeeper is expected to dive, it's as simple as that If an outfield player dives or slides his running the very high risk of handling the ball, which is why it's a last resort So, if an outfield player is diving or sliding, he is classed immediately as not in a natural position That part made a lot of Handballs, A very easy decision And it needs to go back to that A footballer's natural position is with both feet on the ground If they do not have both feet on the ground and it hits an arm, then that player was classed as not naturally positioned, Which made the decision more like an offside in the old days Otherwise, you can't define Natural, which creates the inconsistency

Just make a simpler rule that applies for everyone. The way it is now, it is just a tool to justify bad/good ref decisions. Punish every handball touch in the box and that's it. Also, remove penalty from football, it is just a bad way to punish, they are thousands of penalties that have been given that would not result in a goal, they big box is too big to consider it an area that can be safely be used for such a harsh punishment. Football rules are so bad and outdated that can be used only as a way have always have a debate about referee decisions after almost every football match.

I like your idea. Every handball in the box should be penalized but not in penalty kick. Maybe a free kick from outside the box nearest to where the handball touch occurred UNLESS the handball is judged to have directly prevented a goal - you have to have that stipulation or defenders will be swatting down would be goals left and right.
