That is ABSOLUTELY fantastic! I’m a purist who did a glass out, every panel off restoration on my 1981 XJ12 in Rhodium Silver last year. Started stripping it on the 10th of February and had it all back together and completed by the end of last October. I’m 48 and have always had XJ’s since my 20’s, including a manual S3 6.0 TWR that I would never have sold, but for divorce. I understand and agree with everything you’ve done so well with your car. Nothing wrong with either the purist approach or a custom car that’s been put together so well such as yours. Fantastic job my friend.

Ex Jaguar owner here, had 7 XJ's over a 25 year period. 4 XJ40's, 2 X300's and an X350. Fancied a change 2 years ago, so I'm in an Audi TT Mk1 now, and I absolutely love it, But Shaun's creation would definitely tempt me to sit behind the leaping Jaguar again. It's what Jaguar themselves should have continued doing, thoroughly modernising the hidden bits but keeping the classic iconic outer skin, instead of throwing away years of history.

This is the way to do it. I have always wanted to simplify a computerised car like an F type Jag and put in an old Mustang drivetrain, so much more reliable. Now you have the shape and reliability to boot. Plus you can do a lot with a small block.

Absolutely great job.. I myself would have kept the V-12...lol.. My son and I have done a complete restomod on his 86 XJS.. a complete shaved body(no door handles,, lights, Even the gas cap finger lip).. custom black magic satin paint.. custom interior, including removing the ridiculous aux tank, and relocating the batt in the right trunk pocket.. Port and polished intake manifolds, custom made headers, full Mobeck MFI system,, all steel are chromed,, all suspension dropped and blasted and powder coated.. 18x9" rim's.. a complete original TWR body kit.. custom good scopes.. twin 16"electric fans... A complete wire tuck (rewired the entire ER so almost zero wires are shown). All nuts and bolts are S.S.. custom steering wheel... As you mentioned my son now knows everything about cars,, welding,, wiring, suspension,etc.. We must continue this tradition to keep kids working with their hands.. and these beautiful jags alive..

Jaguar's independent rear unit is a work of art

Yes, that generation XJ’s rear suspension gave it the nicest ride on the road, superior even to Rolls-Royce. By slamming it and fitting oversized wheels and ultra low profile tires, the car must be close to undrivable. Probably the guy trailers it around using the transporter we see him driving the car out of. Obviously he loves Jaguar as much as I do and has a unique interpretation of the brand. More power to him! I’ve owned three XJs, all fabulous. If I could afford it I’d buy a last generation XJ, a thoroughly modern luxury performance sedan every bit the equal of an S-Class. Alas, Jaguar could never shake the bad reputation for reliability gained during the brand’s ownership by British Leyland, a nightmare combination of clueless executives hired because they went to the right schools, and Marxist trade unions where workers were encouraged to sabotage cars on the assembly line. A tragic end of a brand everybody loved. I was constantly surprised by how women I knew who had zero interest in cars practically swooned at the sight of my XJ. We’re going back a couple decades, and I suspect the car’s mystique was associated with multiple media channels filming a long-wheelbase Daimler gliding to the curb of a trendy night club, the doorman at attention as Princess Di emerged from the rear seat, looking radiant.

If there's 10k of these left(hypothetically), and twenty of them are restomoded, completely modded, is it really a big deal? That's my issue with purist.

Thankyou so much for doing this build. I have always loved Jags especially the XJ. My first ride in one in the 70's cemented that love straight away. Even when they were called old mans car and rotboxes etc. I didn't / don't care. I now own one, watching your video is inspiring. Original vs Modified, I like things that actually work, so if it has to be modified to function properly, reliably and to look cool then do it. I remember my friend Dad bought a brand new 1985 Blue metallic on blue leather XJ6 which looked so majestic and cost a fortune but had tons of problems and eventually was sold for a fraction of its cost which really hurt as the car was amazingly beautiful but so badly built. Wow absolutely stunning. My dad bought my mum an old xj6 when I was a kid and whilst it was very tired I absolutely loved it. I’ve always wanted to do a similar build to this but with slightly smaller diameter and super wide black wire wheels,l to an earlier s2 car with the blade bumpers and smaller taillights. Great colour choice looks awesome mate 👍 always found it odd that the US has such a mod scene but we don’t. I’d love to see a murdered E-Type too.

My dad had quite a few series 1 2 and 3 when i was a kid and always 4.2’s with a gallon of water in the boot because they would always overheat at some point 😂 i live the things even though i’m an old skool bmw guy, talked myself out of buying one so many times but i think you might have just forced my hand because your creation is just another level, don’t worry what the purists say just leave them to it on the side of the road with their steam show 😂
