Absolutely wonderful. Should be a compulsory download on all i-phones to demonstrate the folie of narcissism to the latest generation of would be gods and goddesses.

Why iPhones? Why exclude other kinds of cellphones? How about social media platforms?? There’s enough narcissism on Facebook alone to fuel an international,space station for20 years! And believe me, they come in all ages, it’s hardly the latest generation by themselves. I’m 60 and far too many of my friends are just as crazy to present themselves and families in the most perfect light possible! And they were never like that before the advent of that toxic platform.
@Michel-eg9eh Жыл бұрын
@@voraciousreader3341 This "toxic platform" reference of yours makes me suspect you could be something of a 'technofobic' type of person, but I may be all wrong there, of course. The narcissism and character defects you're implicitly referring to probably were there, at least in their incipient state, from the very start of the human adventure. I may be wrong there, but in my view the unprecedented scientific and technological advances that occurred in the last 2 and a half or 3 centuries constitute a decisive challenge to our persistent collective and individual character defects. And our general bad faith and disingenuousness haven't as yet receded one bit in face of theses unprecedented challenges. Witness the almost incredible tobacco scare, that has been going on for more than seven decades, without any counterattack from so-called Big Tobacco, in spite of the overwhelming stack of arguments they had at their disposal not only to stay on the defensive, but to counterattack

It's opera, what do you expect?

The soloist’s voice and technique are truly glorious, but I just couldn’t handle the constant “fighting” over that demmed mirror! It was not at all realistic, just incredibly annoying, so I finally turned my iPad over. I would much prefer the arias to be sung oratorio style, rather than such a tiny sliver of stage and 2 props to make anything look realistic. Maybe I’m crabby today, but Handel’s lack of textual variety also gets extremely tedious….the endless melismas sound very like an excuse for meaningless vocal gymnastics.
@nickgooch9357 Жыл бұрын
I think you missed the point of the aria. She's self-obsessed, hence the (meaningful) repetition.
@jimbuxton2187 Жыл бұрын
That is point. In early music the voice is a musical instrument. All the arias could be written on the vowel AH....Its all about the voice and perfect controll and eveness in sound in all registers and articulation. At the time you had to show emotion and meaning in just the sound. The words were secondary. Later when people couldn't handle the discipline the words became more important and it eventually grew into musical theater where the music is secondary to the voice.
