This piece by G.F. Handel was rarely, perhaps never, played in Poland during my life, and now I realize how much I missed. The Coronation Anthem is ingenious! And Mr Jonathan Scott performed it at the highest level of mastership.
Looks like this piece will be used in its traditional role as the coronation anthem after 70 years. The Queen is dead, long live the king. God Save The King.

Phenomenal as always!!! Here's a bit of 'Zadok' trivia for any fans out there: At the 1937 Coronation of Their Majesties King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the Coronation Choir and Orchestra were under the baton of Dr Ernest Bullock, Westminster Abbey Organist & Master of the Choristers, and Director of Music for the Coronation Service. The Abbey organ on that occasion (and later in 1953) was played by the Abbey Sub Organist Dr Osborne Peasgood. I don't know what happened, and I'm not about to speculate on the abilities of such a fine musician as Dr Peasgood, but I wonder if nerves got to him, because he played the last bar of the first section of Zadok (a loud, long A major chord) exactly one bar TOO EARLY which clashed catastrophically with what the choir and orchestra were singing and playing. He held the notes down until the everyone else caught up a bar later! If I'm not believed, listen to the live recording of the 1937 service. It's there for all to hear - and it's to be found on KZbin too!!!

When I hear this or Mozart's Lacrimosa I wonder, if anyone ever tried to execute the beginning of Bach's Saint John's Passion "Herr, unser Herrscher" on classic pipe organ. It's full of dynamic changes, yes. But if anyone can handle this instrument, it's Jonathan Scott! Bravo Maestro!
