Does it run a custom kernel? I don't want another pocket chip situation where after a while it turns into a paperweight because you can't use a mainline kernel on it. This kind of device should last decades.
@xxHANNONxx4 ай бұрын
I'm don't any kind of expert, but he said you need their distribution due to drivers for some stuff like the screen, which would imply they aren't in the kernel already. I'm not sure how hard it is to install drivers on Linux if the distro doesn't make it easy for me, but I imagine the Pi 4 will be supported for some time.
@sn0ren4 ай бұрын
You can build the kernel yourself with the neccesarily drivers. The community made ones use a newer kernel than the stock image.

@@zarkonesmall Security and features. Regarding the shipping times, I was able to get mine dispatched (it's due to be delivered in 2 days) in just over 2 months (Bought Nov 15 2024, dispatched Jan 17 2025) by choosing to buy my CM4 separately, so that is something I'd absolutely recommend. Plus doing that you can choose to get the 8GB RAM model, or when support for the CM5 is mature and stable enough, the 16GB CM5. You can also choose to use eMMC instead of a MicroSD card (the SD card slot will not work if you have an eMMC model though so you'll need way of uploading the contents to the eMMC)

hey man you see that little metal paddle on the bottom of those trackballs? Its a tactile switch paddle, my theory is that the reason these trackballs dont work as well as they should is because they're supposed to have a tactile button underneath them, which would minimize the amount of travel that the trackball has hwen you rest your thumb on it to roll it. Having that extra rigidity underneath the trackball not only would have minimized the ball travel but also would have provided a nice third mouse button to use as was common place on the original blackberry. They were never exactly perfect but admittedly I have to say I remember them being somewhat better myself even on my htc g1.
