I had a couple times where a friend of mine left his handicap pass in my vehicle, but I didn't use the pass of course since I am not physically handicapped. Even though he did say I could use it one time but I said no. I know that would be a fraudulent use.

Wait a min. This is what I saw at my post office today. Only at my local post office they were in the walk way a little more than this person. Being handicap is one thing. Being rude & inconsiderate is another! You all can still see right? Learn to park dam it! No reason in the world to be rude!

I have a handi-cap placard and I get it. It is frustrating when things like this happen but that was not the way to handle it imo. U could have asked the person nicely to please park correctly or even found security inside to talk to them.

The stripe lines are for accessibility, if sso those with movikty devices have room to get in and out.I live in Illinois and we have a space just for vans,it's says van access.The striped lines are suppose to be by all handicap spots.Ther was a article in New mobility that mentioned here had been a change in the required size of these spaces,there had business make the lined space not as wide,but a lot of people who do have ramps had issues with this so I think they am will be going back. See there is only so many spots and small shops with only a few parking spaces are only required to have one spot.They don't have to have a van access able spot.They do have to have the striped lines along side the space though.Keep in mind that not everyone using a wheelchair drives a,van,they need the space to get in and out of the car.All one need to rember is that only 1car that gas a placard or plate can use thes spot and striped area at a time.You can't share the spot or park in any spot with no placard or plate.wish a pic was on all placards and wish they would do away with the plates because it's to easy to abuse the plate,anyone driving the car can abuse it and it's hard to tell if they are the Peron the plates issued to.oh well they would still manage to abuse it anyway as long as police don't do anything about it and by me they dont.

If he had a handicapped placard then he's not doing anything wrong. They often put a no parking area next to the handicap spots like that to give extra room for wheelchairs.

Not true. Unless the placard was issued for the woman passenger who got back into the vehicle, he's breaking the law. Even if it was, he's still in violation due to where the vehicle was parked half out of the marked handicap spot.

While I agree that this video is stupid, I don't agree that it is not his job. If we ignore problems they only get worse. Most people pull into handicapped spots and think, I will be in and out in a minute and I wont get caught. If no one is there to say something to these people, then they never learn a lesson. Might as well just get rid of handicapped spots if the handicapped can not use them.

If the guy that was driving was truly disabled he would and should have displayed the placard as required.It did not appear that the reason the guy park the way he did would have anything to do with accesability for himself, but do you know for a fact that the placard was not the passangers and if so if they have accesability issues? I ask this because I'm disabled. I drive my car,but most handicap spots are set up for the passenger, the lines area for access is on the passenger side not the driver side.I have a 2 door car ,I cant get in or out of my car unless the door is open all the way.My spine is fused ,both hips replaced and both knees as well.I use to park in just the spot with the handicap guy if there was lines for another spot avalible for me to at least get out.but over the years I have stoped counting how many times ive come out of a store only to find someone parked in the lined spots ,I have to go back in and wait for the person to move the car, if the lined area is on the passenger side I have parked in the lined spot and used the other spot to get in and out, only to find some jerk pulled into the other spot once again blocking me out of my car. the sad thing is a lot of these people have placards.If they were truly disabled ,they wouldn't do this to other .They would know why.Ive even had someone pull right up to my door,and when I ask them to moe thy flip me off. I think the worse so far was a woman, with her teenage kids in the car parking on the lined spots,whe ni told her she need to move she was parked Illegal, she laughed and actually told me that the lines are for motorcycles not handicap OMG> these days I park at a slant part of my car is in both spaces,which are suppose to be for one car anyway.Both the spot and the lined area are there for me to have accesablility and if I want ot be able ot get back in my car I don't have much options.If the passeneger was the disabled person then he could have parked there so that she could get in and out. In this case the guy was wrong because he didn't diplay the placard but,i think the police need to crack down on people miss using the placards or trying to share the spots with others who are already there.I know a lot of states need money, how bout issuing some tickets.Keep in mind too, that a ticket will only up held in court if the lines are displayed,the spot has a clear handicap picture on it ,as well as a sign that stating the handicap spot along with a fine amount, if just one of these things are not there it will be dismissed if the person challenges it .So if you see a spot that's not displayed right , call the city and get them to make it right first ,so police can actually issue a ticket that will stick .

IM glad to hear that they issue tickets, this is the only way to prevent abuse, i think that in this case the people in the car where not handicap, ive seen people whip out a placard only after being called out,in those cases it turned out the placard was for another person who was not in the car at the time, this was why they did not display it and only choose to pull it out real fast so you couldnt see any info on it.I honest wish they would layout the spaces better, in my case ,if i had been passenger in that van, i would not be able to get in and out of the van of it was parked only on the space.The car parked on the other side would block the door from opening all the way.they need to add a smaller striped line on the opposite side .Also , a lot of hadicap spaces are done diffrently, such as the lines being on the passenger side, this is great if you have a accesible van because the ramp drops out on the passenger side.If you are handicap and a driver and need the space to get in and out of your car, its a problem having it only on the passenger side.If all spots where wider this wouldnt be a issue either,but ive been parked in my space with plenty of room to get out and go in to a store ,only to come out to find a car parked in a regular spot with the tires over the lines, leaving me little or no space at all.sadly it wouldnt matter how well they made the hadicap spots,because there is always people who will not care how they park or effect others by what thy do.My favorite excuse is " ill be back in a few minutes" ive actually just pulled up behind the person thats illegally parked in the spot and parked there. they are forced to wait till i get back in my car.which im never in much of a hurry.One thing i can say that does seem to help, is actually calling the person out for there actions.Like i metioned before,its very important to make sure that the person ,just didnt forget to put the placard up, this can happen a lot especially with the elderly.I just kindly let them know that they forgot to put their placard up.If they actually did, then thy put it up right away, if they dont put it up them you know ,they arent disabled and just abusing the spot .Handicap parking is a federal law,while each state can choose who they believe qualifies for the spot as well as the fines .Its required that all states do the same things, 1, have a clearly marked spot indicating that its a handicap spot, this is why the guy in the wheelchairs is painted on the spot.If the pain starts wearing off then ,in court a person can claim that the spot was not properly indicated.2 a sign must also be posted stating that this is a handicap spot,no sign and a person can claim they didnt see the guy when thy pulled in.3 a amount for a fine must be displayed ,without this amount displayed they clearly argue the amount of the fine.I know all this because i went threw my states attorney office to get 4 stores to provide the proper legal handicap spot.I live in a small town so a lot of stores , have older signs or worn out paint,some even lack a sign or space for that matter.The first place i dealt with this was a gas station where a police officer was parked in the handicap.I called him out for doing it and he pointed out that the spot was not legal due to no sign and fine amount displayed.I talked to the owner of the gas station and they corrected the problem. There will always be people who think they can do what they want and do so as long as others dont do something about it , so its important for people to take the time to call them out for doing so ,when ever they can. Please make sure you are safe when doing so, so people can be quite dangeous when confronted.

Roberta Rosa. I agree. I'm from across the pond (Atlantic Ocean) and we have the same problem over here. I confront these inconsiderate people and take photos of them illegally parked. I sometimes wish they were disabled for, say, 6 months then they may see our problems. Now with me being from the YUK (United kingdom) I'm a bit behind you guys on the "slang and abbreviations." Could you please tell me what FTBLST stands for? I've been stuck on this for a while and all I can come up with is:- "Fat Tony's Balls Lay Sitting on the Tarmac!" Have a nice day. P'S. Roberta Rosa In my state the placard has the picture of the person to whom it was issued. That should cut down on misuse. But the spaces are now just a regular car width. No lines on either side which sure would make it an issue for you. My spouse is going to have a hard time getting the chair out and maneuvering in once he is on crutches.

where I live in Indiana I wish they were more people to go around and give tickets to abusers I have a placard and a plate if you would look at me I can walk but my disability is seen and un seen I don't use my placard because having a plate but I can take it with me to use in anothers car as long as im with them at least that's what I have been told

The slashed markings between or around handicap spots are considered part of the handicap zone. Since this guy pulled a placard out and is within the handicap zone and handicap slash zone, he was perfectly fine.

try parking in a normal spot in which your car happens to cross into one of these slash marking areas. In my state, you'll get a ticket for parking in a handicap zone as the law sees the spot and the slashes as being one in the same. The entire area is reserved for handicap.
