I think it’s important for everyone to understand that your handicap index and your course handicap are not the same thing. If your handicap index is 10, you need to use that to figure out what your course handicap is which will vary by slope/rating of the tees/course you’re playing. From an easier set of tees your course handicap may be an 8. From a harder set of tees it may be 12.

Do you think it’s worth to score the match using stableford if everybody is off the same handicap? Or would do you think match play scoring is better if everybody is on the same handicap? Thanks

Unless players are single figures, stable Ford is fine, keeps everyone in the game longer. Match play also good for 2 players

In stroke or stableford you are playing against the course, In match play you are playing against the player NOT the course. hence strokes are given on difference handicap. ie If player A is on course handicap of 15 and player B is off 18. the difference in handicap determines how many shots given, in this case 3. so player B gets 1 stoke on match index holes 1, 2 and 3, all other holes they play with no handicap shots. yes it is for head to head match play If want to do a match against buddies, then play stableford index and best points on hole wins. ie on 3rd hole as shown in video player made a 5 for 3. so that wins hole if all others score only 2 points. Stableford is not for beginners as suggested, in Australia all club competition is played as stableford, so every one is familiar with system.
@interestedbystander1968 ай бұрын
I would say yes it is worth it still, even if players are off the same handicap. You get the opportunity to score at every hole. A player getting a par on one hole and then a double bogey on the next gets two points (2 for the par, plus 0 for the double bogey). If their playing partner gets two bogeys, they also get 2 points (1 for each bogey), so the ebb and flow can change as the round progresses.

blake saunders if you’re a 19 hcap, you get an extra shot taken off stoke index 1. If you’re a 36 hcap, 2 shots on every hole.

So you are aiming to shoot 36 points a round then for you to be playing to your handicap then? When I used to play stableford we played to try and get 18 points a round, so a par would score a 0 handicapper 1 point.

So par is 2 points on par-3 and par-4 holes, but 3 points on a par-5 hole? Are there any par-2 and par-6 holes, and if so how many points is par on such holes?
@OliTuckerGolf4 жыл бұрын
Viper Racing par is always 2 points. You only have par 3, 4 and 5s
@viperracing28894 жыл бұрын
@@OliTuckerGolf Aha, thanks. So even at a short 68 or 98 meter practising hole, par would be 3 shots. Par can't be less than 3 shots or more than 5 shots on any hole?
@geoffcohen613 Жыл бұрын
Not quite. NET par is 2 points on any hole. net bogey is 1 point. so if have 1 stroke on a par 3 and make a 4 then net par so 2 points. if make a 3 get 3 points. it really is very easy to score stableford.

I hear people suggest that if someone off 28 shoots 50 points, they say that it equates to playing the course -10 (unsure exactly lol). I'm using examples per se as I'm quite new to stableford. So if somebody shot those numbers, how do you work it out what they're playing to par? I really hope this makes sense!
@OliTuckerGolf5 жыл бұрын
Gregg Daniels a ‘par’ score would be 36 points. 50 points is 14 points better (or 14 shots). So that’s a 28 handicapper shooting 14 over par.
@greggdaniels61295 жыл бұрын
@@OliTuckerGolf thank you for that. 👌👍

All made sense up until the end with the 'if you get 10, then that counts as 0' - why?
@OliTuckerGolf3 жыл бұрын
Even on a par 5, 10 shots is 5 over par. If you’re handicap was 36 (2 shots per hole) it’s an 8 and that’s still no points. Basically means, if you’re having a shocking hole and can’t score points, move on.
@HORHAYY103 жыл бұрын
Ah right - I was gonna ask what is the upper limit but I guess it's Bogey at 1 point - double bogey would be 0 points and therefore anything above that is also 0 points. That makes sense! I like how if you can score some points it counts but if not, bin it off! Haha thanks for responding

So would a 28 handicap get a shot at every hole?

Phil a 36 handicapper would. 28 hcap would get 2 shots at stroke index 1-10
@kevinbrannon85945 жыл бұрын
Yes
@geoffcohen613 Жыл бұрын
a 28 handicap would get 2 shots on hardest 10 holes and 1 shot on other 8 holes. so on 3rd hole shown above the 28 marker gets 2 shots, so a 7 (nett 5)would get 2 points, a 6 net bogey would get 3 points and 8 would get 1 point
@geoffcohen6137 ай бұрын
Par 4 hole with a shot on 10 hardest holes scoring would be 4 for 3points 5 for 2 6 for 1 7 for 0. On hole where doesnt get a stroke. 4 for 2 5 for 1 6 for 0 Really very easy. In Australia all club competions are stableford. Also once you have zero points just pick up, so wont have a 10 as described in video
@plus2golfer125 жыл бұрын
I've never understood handicaps in competition... it gives you no incentive to get better... Maybe I'm old school in the way that I believe you should take your ass whipping and work hard to become good enough to beat that guy on your own....I worked my ass off to get to +2 why would I give some guy 15 shots and a chance to beat me when he's been playing for 4 years or more and put no effort into getting better
@simonkristiansen39494 жыл бұрын
Well in that case, play match play or stroke play, if you Count your strokes, you know you are Playing better golf, and if your incentive to get better is just 2 win, play something Else, im a 3 hcp, and i for once love the fact that i Can GO out and play a fair and competitive round of golf with some of my friends in the 10-20 hcp range, and that is not because they dont work hard to get better, they are just newer to the sport than me. I know im playing better golf, and they know as Well, all you have to do is just count strokes, but We Can stil compete, and for that Reason the hcp system is brilliant
