Handing Magic L: a Detailed Review

I have the 5ft 6in Micro-L BFS. It is an amazing fishing rod. To get the best out of any fishing rod, you must learn and practice. A master fisherman can make any mediocre rod look great. There aren't many "bad" fishing rods. Most rod manufacturers get their rod blanks and rod guides from one or two sources. The Micro-L has Fuji guides, so that tells you a lot. You slap on a brand label and they can charge $400 USD, and the same rod that's branded with some unknown will cost around $40.

Nice review! hey how long of a leader do you like on the Bait casting rod? and how many wraps do you use with your double uni knot?

@@frankmangieri2077 Hey friend! So, I always add a long leader for a few reasons: 1. A longer leader means there’s no chance the fish will see mainline. 2. If your leader gets damaged you will still have plenty if you have to cut some off or if you get broken off. 3. It doesn’t hurt having a longer leader. That being said, I usually do 8-10ft of leader- at least 6! I do 7 wraps on each side of my double-uni then pull them together. Hope that helps!

I would like your opinion since you have fished a lot with the 6 foot 2-10 gram spinning model. What is the ideal range of castable and manageable weight for this rod in the case of jig heads and minnows? I'm undecided between this model and the UL model which seems to have a more rigid back.. I would like to use it both in fresh water and in the sea with small soft baits, mepps numbers 1 and 2, small minnows and jerks. I'm used to fishing with a 4-12 gram Poison Adrena that I use for light spinning in salt water

@@domenicofalcone2921 don’t pass go or collect $200- just buy this one, man. I live in Fl on the coast and use it in the salt and fresh and it’s perfect. This one actually DOES have a stiffer backbone, but it’s very fast and the 30-ton carbon is VERY sensitive, so it’s still a joy to catch bluegill. My biggest fish on this is a tilapia between 5-6lbs, but I’ve caught several bass around 3lbs, and redfish up to 19in. This rod is IDEAL for what you’re trying to do, brother. To give you an idea, I am able to throw a 1/64oz jig head with a 1.5in piece of nightcrawler out ~30ft maybe more, so that’s about .5gr of weight, and I’ve used probably up to two OUNCES of weight on a Carolina rig, and casted it, and didn’t worry about it breaking. Hi - just subscribed, liked the video! I have an Ultra Light vs Light question about this rod. For larger species - large mouth bass, smaller striped bass (4-5 lbs max, but usually smaller) I catch in the delta, would you recommend a jump in size to a Light? Also, do you think a Light would be too stiff for bluegill and crappie. Thanks in advance for your input!

@@r.galbraith6220 Hey my friend! Thanks so much for the sub and for writing 🙏. Great questions here. So, I have caught a 4-5lb tilapia and a thousand different bass and I can say without a doubt, this rod will be fine for stripers that size. In fact, that’s going to be a BLAST. This rod is definitely a little more firm than some other UL rods, but not in a bad way. It’s extremely sensitive still (good Carbon) and it has a very fast rip, so it still has a lot of “fun” sensitivity on the end. With that in mind, I use this rod for panfish all the time and know it will handle whatever else comes its way; but let me tell you this, if you want to use the best panfish rod Handing has to make, go get a Wandering. I made a video for it too if you want to check it out. The Wandering is my favorite rod overall- like out of all 75 rods I have lol. It’s so much fun! The Magic L is a GREAT rod though and both rods have their place in an angler’s repertoire! Also, the Magic Blade has kind of the same action as the Wandering, but it’s quite a bit cheaper- and right now it’s wayyy on sale. Not as nice as the Wandering, but I have this rod too as a BFS rod and love it! Worth every dime. Hope this help! Any other questions, please feel free to ask! Blessings 🙏

I love mine except the micro guides and no hook keeper. Was hoping to run a slip bobber setup. Bobber stop won't go through those tiny guides

I don’t find them necessary either, though it hasn’t impeded my action using braid to mono with a double-uni. I understand using the bobber stop, though! They break bc Chinese haven't mastered carbon fiber technology, so the stiffer, the more brittle it is. The UL's don't break only bc they have give or flex. I think if they get that science down like the big brands, they will be a true player. Please tell them to enhance their rods as a spokesperson for Handing. For now, Piscifun and KastKing will lead this market as they seem to put research and development into their stuff, although not perfect yet.

I understand what you are saying brother. I have spoken with them many times and I am sure they are working on things in research and development. Honestly, I’m sure they have made improvements already! I will say, that only seems to be on the bigger rods. The Ultralight rods are amazing.
