One suggestion I would make for the above board is to have swiveling foot sandle straps for your feet to slip in and out of to have better control grip and connection to the craft. Like slalom water skis kind of that have that one foot pocket. Weather practical or not something to consider if useful, as it is just a thought. Overall Great work and thanks for taking the time to share it.

The process looks like Art. I suggest that you can scan the 3D data and save, then rebuilt many more pieces for easy verify parameter.

Nice work for a primative DIY method. If you are happy with the result, you can make moulds and lay them up in glass and carbon fiber.

Hehe careful you're about to fall into a deep rabbit hole🤪. Its a similar workflow as building surfboards. My recommendation is to make the core shape thinner then you think you need, the layup really adds thickness. Check this workflow for my latest techniques: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqW0nomdpbqjiZY . @@charlesosterlund7303 Thanks! maybe 800 - 900 cm2, to me it feels smooth, but i dont have enough experience with normal foils to really compare. Some slight flex at the wingtips but pretty stiff overall.

Just what I kinda needed to know I can do that easily but time & patience. I am researching mounting a powerful motor to that design. I want as small diameter motor as I can get but yet powerful going to make it long slender. I am trying to make a Ascend 13x or Pro Hobie Fisherman kayak into a E Hydrafoil kayak sick abs tired of 1-3 mph, yet making it look as professional a Tory made as possible, also adding more trouble I am making the foils To where they fold up as so kayak can get into shallow water. With a solid e foil on bottom of kayak I cannot go into water shallower than 4’-5’ feet deep. I want to get into 2’ deep water at least, some. I pant will come out with a model before I get finished I’m sure but I can’t wait however long it will be

I was skeptical at first but it looks good in the end. It's very smooth, friction wise, and I imagine it's quite strong too. I wonder how you managed to get the angle of the rear stabilizer. I've found it to be a fussy thing to get just right. Thanks for posting your project.

Hey James, I just eyeballed it. I estimated 2-3 degrees of negative angle. The foil turned out to be very stable, next time I'll put just a little less angle

maybe you could create a sleeved idea so you clip a bigger foil on to the base system to allow the hydrofoil to be used by bigger people

Beautiful looking foil - must feel super smooth and responsive in the water assuming there's not too much flex. Maybe you could do a stabless tail with mounting holes so you can change stabs, shim them or adjust front-rear wing length. Would allow you to experiment and dial in your design without having to build a whole new foil. How much experience have you had in shaping before you built this? This appears well thought out and I'm guessing you've done quite a bit of this work before.

Thanks for the comment, indeed having removable wings and stab would be convenient, however it makes it much harder to obtain an overall rigid structure, and all the connection points on the fuselage makes it very challenging. I haven't figured out how to make one yet . Building a one piece Hydrofoil seems to help a lot with rigidity, and weight. Indeed, this is my 3rd hydrofoil build, the building process is still evolving.

A lovely piece, though I think it is somewhat of a shame to cover up that interesting grain/ply pattern with boring carbon fiber. At least the portion covered by the plain fiberglass fabric kept those smooth body contour lines visible. Beautiful work. One can see that you visualized the flow while shaping the foil.

Nice! I look at a lot of RC plane builds for inspiration, it is similar indeed. Unfortunately, I've never ridden a Factory made foil, so I cannot give you an objective comparison.

How thick is the plywood that you made the foil itself not the outline price which was 4mm

Really want to do that But i can only repair surfboards. Is this enough skill to get a working wing? Or trying to shape a board First?🤔

Yes i think you could build a functional foil given your surf repair experience, the learning curve is the same as surfboard building except its cheaper in material cost so less risk if you mess up. After 1 or 2 builds it gets a lot easier.
