I enjoy watching you work. Every move is purposeful. An old teacher of mine use the euphemism......"economy of motion". That's what I see when I watch your videos. Strong work.

I think my videos make my motions seem more economical than they really are. But I am organized if nothing else. Thanks for your support.

I keep saying this, your work is always neat and tidy. Great job as always Glen. Im looking forward to, maybe, seeing a video of any progress/improvement/changes you’ve made to your self adjusting tongues. The ones you made for me are fantastic but it’s always interesting to see and design changes. Take care my friend.

Yeah, I need to put together another video of my RA Tongs. The changes are not dramatic but may be of interest. I appreciate your support. Take care as well.

Hi, Glen. I've been watching your videos for a number of years now. I can't think of another blacksmith who works as cleanly as you do. I'm hoping one day to get some of your tools. I like your unique approach to things. (like your unconventional and super functional anvil!) Hope you're well.

I really appreciate your kind comment. I'm certainly not the best blacksmith but if nothing else, I'm organized. And my unique work space has made me take a different approach... Thanks for sure and I wish you the same.

Looking great! Love your tool making. Been trying to take your advice lately and try to find my own solutions to problems rather than look for a video right off.
@gstongs4 жыл бұрын
I just find it best to first think on a problem rather than run to see what someone else has done. In the end, what other have done might be ideal but I sometimes (not always) come to good solutions by pondering without outside influence. Thanks.

you should make a second type that is made to be gripped by tongs. personally I've switched from making permanent handles to using tongs 95%. the tongs are more versatile, and the resulting tools are easier to store.
@gstongs4 жыл бұрын
It's a good suggestion and I used to offer loose punches to be used with a pair fo tongs in the past. it makes dressing them much easier. But I personally prefer these with permanent handles. Thanks.

Perfect timing Glen, I'm in the process of making tools in an effort to learn skills - 2 Qs if thats ok. For top tooling like the rivet snap/round header, is mild steel ok? Or am I wasting my time? And for handles is there best practice, welded on or wrapped? I'd prefer wrapped like your own but was wondering is there a difference/reason for one over another?
