Renathal in Handlock is one of the few places it actually makes sense. Warlock is already ready to trade life for draw, and has many effects allowing it to do so. Having more life essentially gives Warlock more potential draw.

I think it can make sense in a lot of control oriented decks. Yes more cards means more dilution, but in wild you have every card ever (aside from the one everyone knows) so you can avoid dilution by doubling down on effects that are still good, but not as efficient to counterparts. Like warrior does

​@@Evan_Schaefering Agreed but still if you draw endless at cost of health with the handlock draw mechanisms as well as stuff like flesh/molten giant(s) with battlemaster and dirty rats plus mutanus and raise dead to add on that seems to perform pretty good, the extra health is good for sure against aggro but +10 cards is a big downside then again this deck's game plan runs to late game and i don't think the +10 cards are that bad in this kind of deck.

40 is a larger number than 30, so it is obviously better. There can't be any downside to a number being larger than another, not even for mana costs.

I run a 40 shudderwock shaman on ladder. Firstly 40 hp makes it much better against agro. Secondly with 40 hp, running the battlecry quest becomes optimal because you have +1-2 turns against agro decks. Third, since lots of your cards are draw specific cards it isn't as much a disadvantage to have more cards. Fourth, since you can reliably double your card drawing battlecries it is still quick to cycle through the deck. Fidth, your combo disruption is way better if doubled. Tldr, 40hp makes quest viable.

The most exciting thing about Renathal is that he is an experiment done by the Hearthstone team. Maybe it's a look at what they might do to the core mechanics to slow the game down. Imagine forcing everybody to 40 cards. That could definitely slow down the game as a whole.

No idea if you tried it already but murloc heavy shuderwock (11-12) has been a great deck I have been doing with it quite well. Finished 175 last season with it and this season got to rank 14 with it.

I think that starting with 10 extra life can be enough of an advantage to make him worth it in decks that minimize the downside (like this one), but claiming that putting 10 extra cards in your deck is legitimately an advantage is absurd. Just look at Magic the Gathering or Yugioh, both games with (almost) no maximum deck size but you still never see decks running more than the minimum without a very specific reason to. Sure hearthstone is its own game. And I do remember the time when Archivist Elysiana was unironically played in the best deck in Standard just to pad against fatigue. But that was years ago and unusual even for the time. It took a deck which was able to reliably remove every threat in their opponent's deck every game (no matter what they were running) but which also had no way to kill their opponent. Nothing in Wild in recent memory has met either of those criteria, much less both. The threats available are just too good.

@@gabri-immortale there's a reason why Brawl is the most used board clear in Warrior. Because it's the best. A rancor can be good in some board states, but it's not always good. So there's absolutely a drawback of drawing your worse boardclears that you slid in rather than your best clear.

All those Prince Renathal arguments aside, i play him in Odd Rogue to draw Baku and Patches less. Also with a higher life total i can focus more on sending everything to the face, all hail SmOrc (the deck used to run pre-nerf cloak of shadows for the same reason) Deck still sucks tho, it's sad to admit that as a fan of the deck...

A zoo warlock deck might need jus those few extra peices of gas to finish a game out your drawing your whole deck by like turn 5 all your cards are the same in terms of value alot o cheap stuff an cycling so your straight up not diluting your pool your jus gettin more gas and a lil extra life to work with. and in an aggro mirror thats prolly enough to get a win. I cant see a single reason why every controll deck wouldnt play it and alot of combos decks. Especially once hs adds searching to the game. Youd run it cus your other 10 cards are cyclers or maybe even a backup wincondition room for more removal or tech cards even. Hs is a simple card game most rules that apply to other games dont always work in hs. In mtg for example its true adding more cards aint smart cus you need to draw lands to play your cards so your actually making your chances of even playing the extra cards worse. Hs dont work like that you cant interact with your own graveyard go above your starting life or recycle cards can barely manipulate your library in a non rng way dredge is like the only 1 short of random shuffle effects that jus give ya random junk these 9 extra cards are all good cards your able to play on curve cus your gaurenteed your mana every turn so the ability to just get 10 extra life and 9 extra cards isnt always a downside its prolly cliser to 60 40 maybe even 50 50.

@@connoringram4948 I'll let you in on a little secret. Aggro decks, especially those in Wild, don't want extra gas. They want to win before value ever become relevant. You should be building your deck to execute your gameplan, not adding fail-safes in case your plan falls apart. This is deckbuilding 101.

It is so rare people actually want to run over 40, Like MTG's exception is like Yorion which gave you just an insane card on hand every game for running 20 extra cards. @@nudnud9 I'd warn you to not overestimate an extra pyroblast worth of health. Realistically it gives you 1 extra turn against most aggro decks,. That can certainly save you but it also may not, especially since your best cards are harder to find.

@@nudnud9 tbh yeah if you think the 10 hp difference is important, there is reasons to run to run it, but running more cards is rarely ever a benefit. I think one of the more generic uses if there is a really popular combo deck and renathal lets you leave that range. One of the biggest reasons to run purely a bigger deck is Well let's put it in hearthstone term Is that not drawing your worst is better than drawing your best card, as an example if you run several Patches. It's very normal in the current Yu-Gi-Oh format to run over 40 due to this.

There actually are decks that make the 10 extra health worth it, and sometimes even the 10 extra cards is an upside (such as prestor druid and frontlines paladin), but the problem is that they're still not good enough to be meta.

Renathal might continue to be bad, but it might become good with insane unobvious synergy like Majordomo with Tess, especially since it is a better card to begin with. A deck that uses a powerful/a lot of effects that average the damage on both heroes comes to mind, especially if it also gains armor to avoid being broken for self-damage only focused decks. Or some that average damage to your hero and a minion/all minions. That seems the most obvious way to abuse it. Other synergies might be less synergistic, but if there is enough power behind them, they can be good too. So you probably should not disenchant Ranathal unless you really need the dust.

Not just broken in aggro decks, imagine a druid deck that's just oakens package, guff, ramp and maly moonbeam. Any fast combo like pillager rogue also would 100% play it and probably reno decks even would want it for higher consistency of drawing the broken yellow cards

Okay, you gained an additional turn worth of health, but 10 cards that were not the best cards you could put in your deck. Depending on the quality of those cards that is a major downside. If you need a board clear, but you don't draw it because you reduced the chance of drawing the board clear then you lost because of 10 additional cards and the additional turn worth of health only gave you 1 additional draw towards the winning card...

@@gabri-immortale That requires that there are 5 good board clear cards available to your class. And they are going to be worse board clear cards then the ones you put into your 30-card deck... So your deck quality still decreased. Also, I assume you have some sort of combo or late-game value engine that you use when you don't face aggro? Those match-ups just got significantly worse. If you face a 30-card control or combo-deck then you have way more useless cards in your deck... On average your deck still got worse, if that is worth 10hp depends entirely on whether those 10 additional cards are close to good enough and on how much aggro you are actually facing.

@@Kholdaimon counterpoint you play your meta deck into another one that you have a badmatchup against maybe even unwinable and you loose no matter what cus your deck doesnt have an answer. Where as my 40 deck has 2 random tech cards that allow me to beat combo and prolly 8 additional cards to help against aggro so im more likley to see the cards i need for that matchup and controll goes long so i have time to draw into that extra tech card. Its not like your adding random junk there are plenty of great cards that are playable to add and 10 life is alot. You cant increase your starting life total without amara or armor gain so hes a giant fundamental shift to the game. Some combos deal 28 to 38 dmg so being able to survive stuff like that means you might make an opponets deck a badmatchup against you. board clears arent the only answer to aggro either especially in hs were you can simply attack your opponents stuff and can mulligan so freely. You can have extra taunts rush dudes cheap interaction even card draw. Plenty of games you run into a combo deck were your board clears are dead cards in hand. No ones gonna say well you shoulda ran more combo disruption but then you die to aggro. You can have your 1 of random tech card against combo decks. Roffle cant properly access other players playstyle so his word dont mean crap. My man owns every card and snickers and looks down on unoptimized decks when those players might have used all their dust of a new legendary and couldnt craft enough of the deck but still wanted to play it. In mtg you can play 80 card decks if ya wanted but no one does. A card came out thats effect was it started kinda in your hand every game if you had an 80 card deck instead of 60 an youd have to pay 3 to put it in hand plus it was a 5 drop so 8 mana total to get an extra card in hand that you cant play till the late game is not a meme but one of top decks in the game now. Its effect is kinda like a brann retrigger all your battlecries so a total win more card that wont help ya recover yet yorrion 80 card piles are great in mtg. And in that deck you have to actually worry about drawing enough or to many lands were as in hs you just get your mana every turn and would start the game with a huge effect getting an extra 10 life as opposed to a single extra card you have to pay a decent amount of mana to even have access too cus its not like its actually in your hand as discard fodder or something, so i think renethal is way better than most give him credit. Sometimes a cards cost can be a major benefit and not even a real cost with proper deckbuilding.

Warlock doesn't have a sidequest. If you are referring to the regular quests then your answer is yes. The discard one has no synergy, the draw 20 cards one doesn't really do anything for the archetype, and the self harm one is banned in Wild.
