I build this LP style guitar for my friend. She wanted the guitar to be black but still have the wood grain visible. I wished to try staining some ash wood for a long time, so this was my chance. I brushed the grain away so I get a little bit of relief effect and painted it with black light structure paint. I love how this guitars top finish turned out. The challenge I had for this build was to combine a Les Paul style design with Tremolo Bridge. I had to flatten the area between neck and bridge at an angle and then carve a belly curve around that. For the guitar body I used two pieces of mahogany with a thin board of maple and some black wieners in the middle for decoration. Top plate is ash. Neck is also mahogany with maple and veneers, to match the body style. And I also made matching control knobs, but unfortunately I didn’t film the process. I will do it next time.
This guitar build took over 2 months to finish. I put in around 400 hours of time. The cost of materials (wood, hardware, electronics and other components) was around 750€. It is not the cheapest guitar build, but at the end she get a very good quality guitar.

400 hours is insane, here in Canada a very skilled crafsman wont work under 40.00/hour, that would price that guitar at 16K. Not even including material and hardware, electronics.

Man, the craftsmanship is so unreal, what a beautiful piece of work, looks fantastic. That being said, it broke my heart to see what happened at 9:48 to cover up such beautiful wood with black, natural finish or a coloured stain would have been my choice.

Hey, wasn't saying it doesn't look good, not by any means, I actually think with all the gold hardware and rest of the design it's killer, just a lover of seeing beautiful wood. It's actually a nice finish, you can still see the grain at the right angle, looks like if the grain is raised or something, could maybe have been accented even more by spraying with a gloss clear ontop and then sanding back the high spots to be matte.

Ahhh yes, 2021, the last few days before the CNC Everything Era began. This masterwork could be milled flawlessly to finish in three hours, just needs sanding. Handles all the cuts, routes, fine inlays, and engraving- body, neck perfect every single time while you drink a beer and watch

I bought a cnc machine because I wanted to drink beer and watch my guitars being made. But I was disappointed. It takes even more work to build a unique piece with a cnc. But it sure helps with accuracy for fretboards and inlays.

One way of easily transferring the 5th fret design could be to print a waterslide decal and apply that to the neck. That would save having to first cut a template, and then trace around the template.

Actually it wasn't a template, it was a piece that I inlayed into fretboard.

It's just if I miss a line a bit on a piece than I can transfer the same line on a fretboard. This way I can get it with very little to no gaps.
