Oooh, the fire changed the color so beautifully! Just for the record, I enjoy the back & forth aspect of the chores - it's real. While it's impractical to do a job due to weather, lighting, availability of materials, even mood, there is always something else that needs doing: a meal to prep, clothes to wash, mail to read, whatever. Life isn't linear and you are not on the clock. By the way, doing nothing in retirement is a faster route to an early death. We don't move as fast as we did 15 years ago but we gotta keep moving & pushing a bit.

When I was young we worked all day on forts and tree houses and caves and we never noticed how cold and tired we were until it was almost dark and we were, one by one, called home. Sometimes our dogs had already headed home without us. All the years I worked in an office, sitting, pondering questions I secretly did not care about, forcing myself not to dream about forts and treehouses and caves in the woods. Now both my husband and I are retired and we are busier than we have ever been, although we get to sit and relax and read also now.....but the point is.....I'm in my 60's and I just so love it.....if you can do it earlier in your life....do it....retirement doesnt mean stopping work, it means getting to finally work at things you love, that lift you up, that help you live your purpose and find your potential. Its joyous. Love this video. I love the way your front door sounds when it opens and closes. Dont oil it.

Hi Shawn! Just wanted to thank you so much for your channels! I've been watching you for over a year now. I'm far from what you would think is your normal demographic. I'm a 59 year old divorced mother of 3 adults (1 a Master's student in NYC, 1 Asperger's Autistic who teaches in a local daycare and lives at home, and 1 severe Autistic I care for and am teaching to bake and we've started a business for him Tad's Tasty Treats). Your channels are my refuge...my place of peace! I enjoy watching you create and cook! It takes me back to my youth when camping and trekking were a large part of my life as a Girl Scout. I miss those days but through you I am transported back to those blissful days I once enjoyed....many thanks my friend!

Shawn I spent 10 plus years working with copper in my 20's and 30's and never did master custom copper work. I believe it is a never ending progression to perfection and most don't even come close. I applaud you for making the sink. I think it looks great!!! I would offer one word of advice and it would be not to use a rubber gasket under the inside lip of the basket strainer. If you could I would use 100% silicone. You will have a far better chance of it never leaking. The silicone may stain the copper over time however, it does look kind of cool. Each week is a "can't wait" until your next video comes out. Another idea would be to lay the flange down on the counter top and trace it out and then cut a notch into the counter top and install a copper ring over the flange in the cut out counter top. Anyway great job on the sink!! Have a great day!!

I am 70, and can tell you that despite one’s need to be always active, your body will ultimately force you to slow down and take more time to appreciate the world around you. I can still get significant projects done, but at a much slower pace. Keeping fit and learning to keep life simple can go a long way towards feeling productive and satisfied. Your story of going from larger more powerful boats to a canoe is a good model for life.

It sounded very Zen of you in the last few minutes as you talked about why you do tasks in the order, or lack of order, you do them. An expression I read years ago comes to mind, "When you don't try to do everything, everything does itself". Wonderful as always. Thanks much.

It's like reading several different books in parallel, or having talks with several different people throughout the day, or watching a TV show with several interwoven storylines. Also, spreading out a big project over a long time, like the sauna, we get to enjoy seeing it in different seasons. But most of all - it's *your* life, and really not anybody else's business to say how you should live it. You're an admirable guy, and we just appreciate your sharing this great way of life that makes you happy.

Love the opening filming. Cold morning. Warm fire, coffee, outhouse and I'd be arguing with myself--"which one first?" Leaves are at their peak here in WA State. I miss the hardwoods of Michigan, but winter doeth approach, no matter. I have seen hand-hammered woks but not sinks. It looks to be much more tedious a task than the one in the cabin. Beautiful craftsmanship. May your weekend be a great one.

I started working as a kid of 12 ,if I wanted a toy car my dad would hand me his buck saw and point to a pile of cedar logs to cut and split, When I retired at 56 I was surprised at how little time I had to do everything I wanted to do and how I got everything I wanted to do done when I was working. I'm always amazed at people that say "( I'm bored"). At 85 I'm mad that I can't do all the physical thing I once did. Yes, copper just needed more heat to anneal it, which makes it very soft. Then as it gets hammered it hardens again. Shawn if you happen to read this...you could easily make you good sink a lot better by doing this. I think you can stretch the material too when it is soft so you could maintain the diameter of the top part.

I love that you’re more of a show than tell youtuber. A lot of these types of channels get tiring quickly for me because the person tends to spend the whole video talking about what they’re doing/going to do. Not you though. You let your work do the talking. And even when you do talk, it’s still enjoyable.

Sean, I want to say thank youfor this channel, and keeping the two content types on each of the channels... I love this channel for the building and the cabin life... And when I want to see some of the other things like sustainable living, etc I can go to your other channel.. you're an inspiration to us all, and you do things right... Thank you again!

It makes sense to move from one project to the next without finishing. This is something I learned from my stepfather who taught me that It is better to move between a variety of projects rather than focussing too tightly for too long on only one thing just to get it done. He always said, "a change of work is the best vacation" because stepping away to think about something else would be refreshing, and he said that your subconscious would be working on how to solve the problem with the original task while you were distracted anyway. I've found this to be true, and I think of it always when I hit a dead-end on something I'm working at; if I step away to work at something else, I can return to the first job later with more inspiration. And I think that things actually get done faster that way.
