This was an awesome video! Very instructive. I bought one of the kits (my first) from Tandy Leather, the instructions were nothing to compare with the one on your video, even though it was from SneakerKit. I considered it very poor and missing substance in the instruction, like parts were pulled out of it and left void, pretty frustrating. You were really left with your own mind figuring things out. But thank God my shoes came out great, after about 3 times of cutting leather. Thanks again for your indepth video.
@TonyNeedsHobbies Жыл бұрын
Thanks Stevie! Glad you think the video I made was useful. The instructions that I got with the kit our basically also just a brief one page list of items you need to do. When I made my first pair there were no English instruction videos around - it brough a lot of traffic to my channel. According SneakerKit.eu, they sell their unbranded kits in the US via Maker's and Tandy. When Maker's and Tandy started to stock kits, the amount of videos is taking off. People make wonderful things with these kits, even hand tooled veg tan leather sneakers. With many videos to choose from, I really appreciate you watched mine and left me the awesome comment. Thanks again, Tony

Black laces look better because they match the sole and the loop. How comfortabele are they around the heel?
@TonyNeedsHobbies10 ай бұрын
Hi Dwight, Thank you, I totally agree. They are much more comfortable around the heel using the custom insert that I designed for these shoes. The first pair I made had the loop sewn on the inside but it didn't wrap around the heel so it gave a lot of blisters. I ended up cutting the loop out for better comfort. But this green/brown pair is very comfortable with the heel insert. Greetings, Tony

How comfortable are they?
@TonyNeedsHobbies2 жыл бұрын
Hi Brad, I got the sole one (European) size bigger than I normally wear, which makes them quite comfortable. Depending on what you do with the edges and back loop it can improve the wearability. On my first pair the loop caused some blisters resulting in the back piece design that I put in this pair. A huge improvement. I can wear them for a day of office work with a 20 min walk around lunch time. Didn't yet do long hikes... Thanks for watching!

Great video my friend. Where do you recommend buying leather here in the netherlands?
@TonyNeedsHobbies2 жыл бұрын
Hi again Paulo 🙂 All my vegatable tanned leather I get from Boomsma Leder in Breda (www.boomsma.nl). They don't have a physical shop but you can ask them to send images of the sheet you want to buy and if you like it, they send you that exact sheet. They offer different qualities at matching price levels and in my opinion offer good value for money. I always go for the 2nd choice since I don't really make large projects and can often work around imperfections - and actually enjoy seeing scars and such in the final product: it's still strong and shows that you used top grain leather 😉 For colored leather, I get them from a Romanian Etsy seller: RealLeatherStore. The green leather in this video and the black suede in the other come from SneakerKit. Thanks for watching and enjoying the video! Cheers, Tony

That's good to hear! Hope you have a lot of fun working with it. Discolorations don't matter that much to me either. Often I dye the leather or oil it with neatsfoot oil. This will change the color either way.

Hey Tony, how would you rate the durability of the soles? I am afraid of using some really nice leather only to have the soles die on me. Great work
@TonyNeedsHobbies2 жыл бұрын
Hi Paulo, Thank you so much again. There is a double row of holes/stitches where the upper get's the most movement, that improves durability. The rubber didn't dry out on me yet (after > 1 year of irregular use), but I don't expose the shoes to the elements all the time. They're not water tight so if it's raining I don't them for example. Good luck!

every click you hear when cutting the holes is what makes the tool blunt ...my grand father used an extra bit of leather so that the cutter and stopper wouldent reach to each other.

Wow, I never thought of it like that. Thanks for the advice on how to protect the tool's cutting bit. I will glue a piece of veg tan leather to the "anvil" of the punching tool in order to try to keep the tool sharp for longer. Thanks again! Hi Glorfindel, I mainly treat my natural veg tan leather projects with neatsfoot oil and many other leather projects - like these shoes - with a beeswax based conditioner. These sneakers are not coated to protect them from water. I hope you liked watching the video! Greetings, Tony
