I made multiple models using this pattern and I can say they are the best fitting shoes I ever owned. (I have very wide feet). SUper comfortable, super stirdy. Great job I recommend you try those sewing patterns yourself!

Incredible design! I’m a leather crafter curious about making shoes and boots, your pattern seems to be a great starting point.

Just made a pair in quite thin goatskin, veg tanned and using a vibram newflex sole. Amazing feeling to run in them. Highly recommended. Weighing just over 140g per shoe it is probably the lightest running shoe around.

it's not but thats great to hear I'd like to make a leather running shoe but with foam I thought under 7oz would be difficult but maybe not?
@etx997
@etx997 2 ай бұрын
@@placeholder3863 Yes! It is definitely possible. I have made another pair with vibram super newflex, which is lighter and softer, weighing 114g per shoe. You just have to add a layer of eva foam. There are a number of choices regarding thickness. Just glue the foam layer to the outsole and then to the sole of your shoe.

Hello! Thanks for the great video and amazing patterns! Do you have an issues with the Aquilim 315, or find it needs a primer? And if you're adding an EVA midsole, can it work there as well? Thank you!

@@EmoProDriver I actually have tried as of this past week. Used Colle de Cologne (Renia), with Hardener C (Renia, this one is optional), to bond Vibram Zegama (Megagrip Compond) with Soletech Cloud Crepe EVA, and Vibram Protania - worked amazing! Soletech confirmed no primer is needed on their EVA, and the bond appears extremely strong. Note that this was for a sandal of my own design, but follows a similar process to what this video shows. If you want to add a midsole here, I highly recommend Colle de Cologne with Hardener C

@ wow thank you for such a detailed reply! Lots of these names are new to me, will research. I live in Ukraine, so will need to find some local alternatives I guess. How thick are your sole and Eva? And does the glue not make Eva much less flexible and thus not quite barefoot any more?
@matthewbarnes472
@matthewbarnes472 Ай бұрын
@@EmoProDriver Sorry for the delay! 6mm EVA and 6mm Vibram sole. Overall still has the barefoot feel and a lot of flexibility. I don't think the glue hindered the EVA's flexibility that much, as it is stiffer than the Vibram rubber already

Very clever shoes design with great construction. I am ordering your pattern. Some suggestions: burnish the edges of the leather after cutting the parts out; cut a stitching groove. Certainly, neither are required, but you will have a higher quality finish and the burnished edges will have better water resistance. Fantastic job.

You have the beginnings of a really awesome shoe here. Unfortunately I think this sole design is not suitable for softsoled/barefoot shoes. The shoe should project as little as possible from the side of the foot. Still I may give them a try just to learn from the process. Great work Johan! Thank you!
@JohnMoseley
@JohnMoseley Жыл бұрын
They look quite similar to Softstar Sawyers, which also have a sole that projects outwards. It's fine, and means that, unlike a lot of BF shoes, they don't have a sole that curves up at the side to create a lip around the foot and toes, and are hence less restrictive on toe splay.

You can always just hand-welt it on a barefoot last so it has a better shape. It’ll hug your feet a bit more too probably. More complicated though and not necessarily great for an easier DIY. I might try it that way and modify the insole so that it fits a bit better to my foot.
@shoutatthesky
@shoutatthesky Жыл бұрын
@@noahschatz9015 Isn't a welt the thing that is sticking out? I am not quite sure what you mean. I think I'll give this design a try anyway as it seems like the perfect project for learning the craft of shoemaking.
@MichaelBrown-wx6zq
@MichaelBrown-wx6zq Жыл бұрын
@@shoutattheskyall that really matters is the shoe is light as possible, follows the profile of your foot, does not construct your toes, and has minum padding/sole thickness. So for me I'm going to make the toe box a bit wider but besides that I think this a great design
@shoutatthesky
@shoutatthesky Жыл бұрын
@@MichaelBrown-wx6zq It certainly is a great. I was a little bit unfair with my comment. However, I still feel the worst part of this design is the welt sticking out. This soon becomes an issue when you walk off trail. The ground is not always even or firm so you inevitably will hit things with the welt and it will catch on things because you re using the whole shoe rather than only the sole. I may not be explaining this well but I have worn barefoot shoes for many years and found this to be a huge design error.

Bought your pattern but printing out will be tricky. There is no instruction of what size paper the pattern should be printed on. Also the paper size seems to be giant, almost like a full newspaper size. Definitely can't be printed at home. Probably needs a professional printing service. Please clarify.
