Hello Christine. I have been sewing for 45 years. My mother showed me when I was very young. The best advice that she gave me to use fabric in the most efficient, being able to use all your fabric. When you cut your fabric for a small piece of your pattern , you could fold your fabric to the size of your piece. That way, you will be able to get bigger pieces of fabric not cut if you want to sew more. This is only an advice but I know that you love sewing for your kids in the rest of your fabric. If this is not clear, fell free to let me know and I will try to explain it better. The second advice that my mother gave me: when you have to do a seam for a skirt for example at 1 inch, sew a line with the longest stitch on your machine. You then fold it, iron it and sew it. This is the best and fast way to have straight for the seams. Have a good day! Elise from Quebec

Lovely skirt! This is unsolicited, but when cutting with a rotary cutter, never put your hands or fingers in front of the blade (in the direction it is traveling). Just a small slip can cause a bad cut or injury, which can genuinely impact your whole life as you wait for your hand to heal. If the fabric is shifting, you could use more pattern weights or put pressure next to where you are cutting (but not in the path). There are also metal safety gloves you could wear too.

Gorgeous! I just bought this pattern and wanted to watch someone make it before I attempted it. Thank you for posting this sew along. As to your work set up, I think you need two things - an adjustable work chair (office chair) so you can adjust your chair height as well as your seat tilt and back position and better lighting. That's a really lovely skirt the mustard linen is gorgeous and it will go with a lot! Maybe you could try a chair with wheels, i know i really need back support when i sew. So i wheel my chair in as close as I can to the table and sit right back against the chair - hope that helps 😊 Love your channel regards from the Top End of Australia ❤

Lovely skirt. I have been wondering about making this skirt for a while and I love your version. I made the Demeter dress in a floral double gauze and it is lovely but it has of course grown a bit so I think next time I will size down. I also had to line my dress but it wasn't too bad doing it so I will be very interested to see your version.
