This is so important. Hell yes, or it’s no.
@chlomo26184 ай бұрын
100% agree, and that's such a nice way of putting it. A sweater in a colour that looks amazing on you is going to do a much better job when used in this "accessory" way, and you'll also be able to wear it as a regular item of clothing, so it's much more versatile. It's time to let it go, and take the lesson that if you are going to dabble in colour, stick to the ones that your friend who's an expert in colour told you look great on you, if you don't trust your own eye yet.
@fredalearhinan66934 ай бұрын
The cardigan is an orange base red . You should wear a blue based red as it will suit better.

Yes the colour is way too warm. The colour also feels a little too much, even using it as an accessory.
@hellothanksforbeinghere4 ай бұрын
Yesss I can’t do orange red. Blue red is much more dynamic, in my personal opinion.
@deborahcurtis13854 ай бұрын
Agree. But as Christina's skin is almost neutral she can get away with it. The problem is the shape of the cardigan is too boxy it's cutting her off at the wrong place, at the upper hip. It needs to be longer and a v neck not round neck. Plus the black is awful it's a very harsh combination with red, it's very ageing as a combination. White and red is too much like Christmas colours. A more sympathetic combination is greige or taupe with red it makes the red pop. Or hot pink with red. It sounds awful but it can look very effective. But not with that yellow-red, it needs to be in the blues as you say. I would not wear that red with navy or you end up looking like a bank teller or flight steward. It's a tricky business. I love navy on a winter colouring but make it something with a lot or style in the shaping. I would wear more structured clothing to get a nipped in waist and a slimming effect. The cardigan, just no. We've all been there!

I like how you go through your thought process in detail, that's helpful. I think the worst part of the milkmaid dress is its color. Possibly in a deep teal or chocolate brown it might have more "edge." The white just looks like a nightgown, no matter what the silhouette.
@seltzermint54 ай бұрын
I agree. The white is definitely the biggest issue. I would dye it a medium blue or plum if not giving it to a friend.
@s.a.43584 ай бұрын
I agree. The length and style together with the white are not working. Especially with the jacket it made me think of a nun - I know a nun wouldn’t probably wear that motorcycle type jacket but it’s the combination of black and long white dress.
@deborahcurtis13854 ай бұрын
It washes Christina's skin out. She's a sporty type and is gravitating towards that. the dress is too romantic and she's instinctively uncomfortable with that. I'd wear shirt dresses open necked with no pattern or just soft vertical stripes. Shoes need to be more middle of the road, Christina's a classic type or sporty; only classic or preppy styles suit her. Oversized too slouchy is too extreme and overwhelming.
@elizabethwarick30424 ай бұрын
Yup. Nightgown. And the neckline is way too high. Good call on saying goodbye to that.

Christina, I have the same struggles with gold jewelry. And what I’ve started doing to offset the color imbalance is pairing it with silver and/or pearls. For me, mixing other necklaces with the pearls makes them less fussy and prim, and the white, for me at least, counterbalances the yellow tones that can be problematic with my undertone. Mixing metals is helpful! I also find that brushed gold looks a lot better on me and when you pair it with very shiny gold there’s a texture mix that also works. I’ve discovered that playing with texture in jewelry can lift an outfit as much as the textures of fabric.
@laurielansue41314 ай бұрын
Thanks for the great idea! I love yellow and rose gold most myself. I go through phases though and glad there is a way to repurpose white gold and pieces lesser worn. It doesn't have to be all or nothing. Thanks again 😊
@kerryp82504 ай бұрын
I agree with your tips of mixing metals and brushed gold. Looks much better on pale kind of pink skin. All polished gold does not suit me at all.
@mph_834 ай бұрын
Yes, same for me with yellow gold jewelry. It was/is so on trend (since most of us have been wearing a lot of silver for so many years, I think). But I also have a pinkish/neutral skin tone and cool colors look way better on me. Still, I have a couple of yellow jewelry and heirloom pieces I love, so I pair my golden pendants with silver necklaces or I mix gold and silver bracelets. But with earrings and short necklaces I tend more to silver/white gold pieces.
@JaneCrossan4 ай бұрын
I've always preferred silver to gold and didn't realise it was because of my skin tone. (very pale). I love the idea of mixing the metals. When I was a younger woman, people tended to wear either gold or silver, never both together. I am going to come out of my comfort zone and experiment. It will give me a chance to wear my gold pieces instead of leaving them lying in a box. It will be good to wear pearls more regularly as I love them but as you say they can look a bit fussy on their own ❤

I’m glad you kept the red cardigan for the reasons you ended up mentioning. As I was watching (before I got to the part where you said you are keeping it) I was saying to myself, “wear it around your waist or shoulders” - that’s what I did with a fine red cashmere sweater that got a big moth hole!
@calleachbeare51734 ай бұрын
Depending on where the moth hole was, my mom would embroider something over it. Cashmere is just soooo expensive (& comfortable) she couldn’t bear to throw it away. I do the same if possible but my style is simpler so it’s harder for me to find something ‘acceptable’ to embroider over a hole.

Great video! I love your mind set. One thing I've learned from my mistakes is that oversized tops don't flatter me. They make me look bigger than I really am. On my weight loss journey, I told myself that if I bought the larger sized pieces that they would just look oversized once I slimmed down but it didn't work out that way. I looked swamped. I bought way too many pieces in my larger size, but honestly I wasn't sure if I'd ever get the weight off.

My daughter just came to visit and I had several items that I decluttered and she added them to her wardrobe. Yeah!
@desire-u9c4 ай бұрын
I like your reasoning why you are keeping or decluttering certain items. I’m doing the same, but feel incredibly guilty for donating my items as they aren’t that old (2-3years). I want to keep them longer. But I am trying to come to terms with the fact that I’m older, I’ve had major surgery which has changed my upper body and that I’ve fluctuated in weight due to stress. I always keep thinking, maybe I should keep them but then I look at the items that are an immediate yes and compare to the ones I’m unsure of which makes it easier. I take notes so that I don’t make the same mistake again. Thank you for another great video💙

Love your videos, Christina! My style is quite different from yours, but this video really resonated with me. I think we all like to experiment with trends, but this illustrates how helpful it is to understand how coloring and body type affect how we look and feel in our clothing. I think most of us know what looks good on us, but don't really know why. In your case, you have a long torso and short legs, so it is not surprising that the looks that work with chunky loafers (slim, cropped pants, ankle socks) would not work with your natural proportions. Ditto with the shirt that shrunk and even the cardigan, as they are too short for your torso. Conversely, you look fabulous in long, wide leg trousers which elongate your legs and highlight your narrow waist, and you can really pull off the oversized blazer look. There's a reason you have gravitated toward your signature style, because it flatters your body type. That's why it's so helpful to watch videos like these and hear how you analyze and learn from your missteps. Decluttering only five purchases is a pretty good batting average, BTW!

Lovely video ❤ I think you are right about the blue shirt being too cropped. As Ellie-Jean pointed out in one video, your silhouette is slim, long and straight, so longer lines tend to look better on you. A longer fitting button down will look more harmonious than a cropped one. I think the same goes for the shoes that fell too chunky. As you got a slimmer frame (like slim bones), even though you have a lovely muscular physique, slim shoes won’t disrupt your lines and look better on you. Maybe this helps to describe why you felt that way about those clothes 😊

10:02 I get it. I love cardigans, I see the practicality of a cardigan. I've had multiple...I never wear them. I have one pink one I've used quite a lot...its because i sew it shut, so the buttons lay nicely in a clean line. 😅

I really wanted to love boots. Ankle boots, tall boots…they just don’t work for me. LOVE them on other people, but 1) I live in the southern United States and it just doesn’t get that cold here, and 2) my style is much more breezy and casual. I live in linen trousers half the year and jeans year round, and I prefer to pair them with sandals or sneakers. I also tried the yellow gold trend but I have a cool undertone as well so it’s not the most flattering on me and I feel the difference. Oh, and I tried dresses. Nope. Just not me. It was a great learning experience because now I feel like I truly know my style and I’m much more confident in my style decisions.

Oh noooo! Haha- I live in boots and I’m from Arkansas. I’ll be out in 100 degrees with my doc martens. I am so obsessed with boots I genuinely never considered they weren’t for everyone because they’re so versatile. Interesting!

Hi Christina! Completely agree with you that chunky shoes are not a good idea! Not for me at least. Love your content!!!

Thank you for this! Id love a few of these peppered into your repertoire on why you declutter items or whats in your declutter bag 🖤

Just fell upon this video on my home page. Really loved the honesty and insight. Regarding the blue button down, I loved it layered with the black dress, and I felt the length was perfect for that. Maybe keep it just to wear open? Anyway, looking forward to checking out more of your content...new subscriber here. :)

I just subscribed❤ Why? I shopped so much in the last time and decluttered too less. I want more space in my wardrobe and get rid of my bad habit of not shopping my wardrobe. Your content is great and your personal story motivates me. Warm greetings from Germany ❤

The red cardigan would look fantastic over the white dress (which dress needs ironing by the way). Reason I mention ironing is that it makes a huge difference in the clothing appearance and how we feel about certain pieces we wear. The red cardigan will also look great with white/beige/black/ivory "U" shape tank top or dress. Un-button the top two buttons of the cardigan or keep the cardi open and wear some long necklace. The U shape of the tank top along with the long necklace and the unbuttoned cardi will remove the focus from your neck. Additionally wear a red lipstick and put some color to your cheeks. Wear it with a low heel sandal or pump. Try it - the cardigan is very beautiful and the color does fit you, it warms up your complexion exactly because you are pale like me. ;)

I made the same mistake with chunky loafers. I am petite, and have “solid” legs. I usually don’t go for heavy shoes, but I grew up with Weejun penny loafers and was nostalgic about them. I bought black shiny penny loafers similar to yours, but every time I put them on I think they look masculine. I haven’t worked out how to style them to get around that.

I have a similar bottom silhouette Christina and totally related to the "bottom heavy" shoes part. Took me a long time to let go of the idea of chunky shoes, but rarely do I wear them for the same reasons. 😅 love your videos! 💞

Very interesting vid. The white dress is very nice. It may be the wrong cut for your shape. I wonder if it were longer waisted it may work. Matching cuts to our body shape is so important.

Hey Christina! I wanted to know if you had any advice for someone who suffers from the OPPOSITE of impulse buying -- I'm too scared to have buyer's remorse in the future that I really struggle to buy any clothes! I've always been stressed about producing waste, from a monetary and environmental perspective. Ironically, sometimes I get so stressed about it and I say 'screw it' and buy something that, guess what, I regret. I'm about to go off to college, and I'm years behind on wardrobe updates -- I feel like I like nothing I own AND nothing I see in the store. I totally get that this isn't your area of expertise, and I am not speaking against the conscious consumption you promote at all; still, I'd love to hear your balanced perspective.

Hey, I totally get what u mean- possibly starting with shopping at a *curated* second hand store would help to get you moving in a direction ur comfortable with! It’s more consumption friendly, not as hard on ur wallet and usually has a lot of styles to choose from. Both my teens with opposite styles really enjoy the experience of shaping their style slowly without too much buyers remorse. Good luck!

I realize the problem with that white milk maid dress. It needed a tiered ruffle at the bottom third. That would have allowed the length to work. And, it would have showcased your boots, allowing for some edge. As for the high neckline, I think it gives this top edge as the lower necklines of this style tend to be straight across the chest and look awkward. Great video so far! Subscribed!

My worst purchase, a Zara black blazer, totally not me never wore it. However my best purchase ever: a Babaa wooly jumper, amazing and wear it all the time
@seltzermint54 ай бұрын
I have purchased several blazers because I love them on others, including Christina here! I always feel weird in them though, they just do not suit me. The exception is a vintage green short sleeve (weird I know) blazer that looks very cute with a tank or sundress for work. Meanwhile, last fall I picked up a couple of fluorescent green (!) items and they've seen so much wear, I'm shocked (leggings and a fuzzy turtleneck).
@ruthgrobacher14174 ай бұрын
Same! Haven’t even bought a blazer although they appear in every minimalist/ capsule wardrobe as a must have 😅 But also totally in love with my babaa cardigans, they’re great and my husband steals one of them regularly so I’m glad I got 2 😁
@muaythaigirl16124 ай бұрын
I'm also not a cardigan girl - tried many times, but I didn't like them buttoned up (might as well wear a crew neck sweater and avoid the button-bunch) and they were too floppy when left open (no structure, did nothing for my figure). Now I am either wearing a blazer, coatigan, or collared shirt if I want the layered look or a crew neck sweater shirt or hoodie if I want the 'closed' look.

I saw Allison Bournstein style that red colour with rich brown as a neutral. It was a good combo that might suit you. That cardigan should look good under a blazer imo.
