Margaret Atwood had always emphasized that the inspiration behind “The Handmaid’s Tale” were based on real events that either happened in the past or currently happening now around the world. She never needed to overemphasized the cruelty of mankind and that’s important to both the reader and the viewers of the show. She doesn’t allow anyone to assume that a place like Giliad as a fictionalized dystopian future, but a place that can actually exist in the real world.

The factbthat they have the freedom to say that publicly with zero repercussions says immediately it's NOTHING like that. They seem to believe that not getting exactly what they want, and the fact that people have very different feelings, thoughts, and beliefs than them, means that their rights are being taken away, or that they are under attack. They conflate "rights" with "desires" or "luxuries" because they have spend their entire lives' being coddled, and then they start screaming ridiculous things like "words are violence" when you try to call out their sense of entitlement. Sorry for the rant. Lol. This bothers me so much.

What's really weird is that we never even see any Gileadian media in the show. No TVs or radios blaring propaganda. The closest thing we saw were those videos with the Waterfords asking for Baby Nichole back, but those were meant to be seen abroad.

The people who can consume the media, men, have it and control it heavily. They express that they like traditional ways so newspapers would be king but radios might be used as well. However, because of the use of radios by rebels in WW2 they may have decided against them.

@KateeAngel2 жыл бұрын
Why would an environmental activist want population growth is beyond my understanding. From the environmental perspective human population should be at least 10 times smaller than now to exist in some resemblance of balance with nature. One species consuming 30% of primary production is a recipe of failing biosphere and reducing biodiversity, and as long as human population is so big, even reducing consumption per capita or changing economic system or inventing new technology won't be enough to restore the biodiversity

Why'd Atwood choose Boston as the center of Gilead? Boston's one of the least fundamentalist cities in the country. Northern New England is also the least religious area of the country, with the rest of New England not too far behind. Atwood would have done better to place it's power center somewhere between the Rockies and Appalachians - especially the upper South or lower Midwest. Maybe Central Appalachia would be a good candidate, too.

Margaret venerates the platform discussion about genesis 30. Margaret loves the idea of her an ancestrally mother being a princess from the royal bloodline of pheronic princess's of the house of Pharoh. That she delights in creating literature about it. There's more to this than many of you see. A hell of a lot more. Like those boys having royal bloodline inheritances of knowledge and decision. Some of you say the Jews run Hollywood.
