Handpainting Bisqued Plate with Amaco Velvet Underglazes, using a Christmas Leaf and Berry Design.

Sorry! I accidentally sold this plate before taking a photo of it for this video. But underglazes look pretty much the same after you fire them as they do when you first apply them, except they are glossy, due to the two coats of Zinc-Free Clear glaze applied to them when they're dry.

Amaco Velvet Underglazes
I applied 2 coats of Zinc-Free Clear glaze, and then glaze fired to Cone 5.

Great video Lisa - I enjoyed having your company while I worked late on some socks! Still playing with clay too but my kiln is cooling so I am just waiting right now, socks are a good distraction! Kiln openings are like Christmas morning! Some hits and some misses but fun and learning all the time. I know you are glazing for a show, but I wonder if you weren't, might you use the thicker plate as a bisque mold? Seems to me like it would be sturdy enough. Thanks again for sharing, I look forward to your kiln opening, Jan

Thanks Jan! ❤️. Using the thicker ones as bisque molds would be a great idea. I've glazed them all now, so maybe next time. 😋 I was painting vinyl charger plates while the kiln was cooling from the bisque firing. Seems we're all staying busy with other projects. 😀

Thanks Peggy! I use either the Amaco HF-9 Zinc-free Clear or the Mayco Zinc-free Clear. Both work really well for me. 😀

Dear madam Are the stain colors solvable in water ? And if so what might happen when you brush glaze on the paintings?

Yes, the glazes are water-based. But when I apply the clear glaze, I apply the clear very gently. No rubbing with the brush. I use a thick soft fan brush with a lot of glaze on it. After the first coat is dry, I apply the second coat.
