this is so cool! i just fished a tetra pack (tomato soup) and a milk carton out of the trash, and flattened them out. i will definitely be trying this process! love all your prints, as i always do. thanks so much for an idea we can do at home, without a printing press. very exciting!

Beautiful prints, Ruth! I have a stack of washed and ready Tetrapaks for whenever inspiration strikes. It's one of my favourite ways to make printing plates.

I’m trying not to buy any art supplies for a bit but every time i see your videos i’m so drawn to the way the prints look, they have so much character! I’m guessing the specialist inks would be relatively pricey, is it worth trying this with some cheap oil paint or would i be wasting my time and making a horrible mess do you think?! I’m also working in a domestic space (and i’m clumsy!)…

Ha! I'm a messy maker too (though I know the videos don't show that!). I think I have tried this with oil paint before and it worked. You would likely have to really work it into the marks and scratches on your plate, as it's not as 'sticky' as etching ink. But the main thing is it's oil based, so I think it should work. The intaglio inks are a little more (though not massively expensive if you get own brand from places like intaglio printmaker.com), but you can get away with just buying a black, all other colours you can add via monoprint (rolling oil paint colour onto your plate) or adding as collage or chine colle). Just a thought.

Hello, is it at all possible to use acrylic paints instead of ink? Thank you for your channel.❤
@printingathomewithruthande18682 ай бұрын
I would say no for drypoint etching- it really needs oil based ink of some sort. See my reply to katerose8393 above- it might be possible to use oil paint. However, as I say above, the good thing is, you really only need a black to start with. Hope that helps.
