In this video I talk about how important your hands are in the golf swing. If you are struggling with a slice or a hook, fixing your hand movement will allow you to hit longer straighter shots in no time. Its very simple to do and something you can do at home as well as on the golf course. I hope you find this helpful and easy to follow.

As a 75 yo golfer who's played golf for over 40 years this is the most simple, straightforward golf instructor I ever seen. Hats off to you Julian for explaining the golf swing so simply. I'm excited again about practicing and playing the game we love/hate.

What a nice message to read Mike, I used to coach a very different way but thankfully I realised that complication only leads to confusion, it’s so much easier for golfers to understand what I’m saying now 😀 hope this video helps you somewhat 👍

Hi Julian. Happy New Year hope all good your end. On this topic I’m sure using my hands and wrists more is the way forward now. As you know I’ve experimented with various techniques and the (young) pro’s at my course are always convincing me to keep the face square, wrists quiet, rotate hard, compress the ball and take those divots. Well I finally broke 80 recently but guess what, now have tennis elbow / radial tunnel syndrome and I’ll be unable to play at all for a few weeks. 😩. It’s just not worth it and the best shots with the turn and hinge technique feel so much more effortless. Hopefully we can catch up in 2023 and do some work together.
@JulianMellor

Congratulations on breaking 80. That’s a shame about your injury, I know through bitter experience that the golf swing should not hurt you and if it does there’s something wrong with the method. Be great to help you when your ready. 👍

I really like this video as it just makes complete sense and is so simple. I always seem to have some confusion and doubt about being certain the face is square. I think practising this moment could be really useful. Thank you for this advice.

Hi Julian, I have worked on many methods and have figured what works and doesn't work for me with some ugly scoring along the way . I have been working on your method for a number of weeks now. I did stray away from it in a few competition rounds which only created further frustration. Through patience and alot of trial and error, today I stuck with what I've learnt from you. Basically from the top I just think down and around with no stall at impact. My golf Australia handicap is 8 and at my home course with slope rating I play off 5. Today I shot 1 over par with relative ease. 2 bogies, 1 birdie and 15 pars. I knew it was all coming together and today produced the results. Thank you Julian. 👍👍👍

Hi Scott, congratulations on your great round of golf. I know a lot of golfers who’ve been on the same type of journey as you. What would you say is the swing feeling you have now? What’s working well? Regards Julian

@@JulianMellor Hi Julian, as in your downswing video, I just think down and around, (blend of arms and body) into impact with a subtle feeling of the right sight continuing the momentum through the impact zone to help eliminate my stall at impact. My swing has never felt so pure. 🤸‍♂️🤸‍♂️🤸‍♂️

Hello, Julian. I have an important question regarding the left hand at the top of the swing. The club's momentum seems to force the grip out of the last three fingers. Should I make a shorter swing, or try to grip the club better at the top? I'm 74 but don't have serious flexibility issues. Thanks for your videos which have helped me a lot over the past few years.
@JulianMellor
@JulianMellor 8 ай бұрын
Hi Peter, it’s important to make sure you have the club in the correct part of your hand at address, the crease just above your little finger to the middle crease in your index finger. This allows your little finger to wrap around the grip correctly. Once it’s in the right place you should not allow your fingers to come off the grip. A shorter swing can help but it’s not necessary. Just pay attention to how it feels when you don’t let your fingers come away from the grip. Hope this helps, regards Julian

Hi, I have struggled a lot with my driver and I have a quite strong grip, atleast a strong trailhand. Today I tried out to make my grip neutral and your towel drill came to my mind. To have a feel of the chest squeeze at the same time. I will try my driver tomorrow again but I can imagine things will work out better now. I always thought a neutral grip is feeling powerless, but today after trying it out I can see how it actually are the opposite, I can make my backswing with full confidence that the club will come back square at impact, and with no unnecessary manipulations to get square.
@JulianMellor
@JulianMellor Жыл бұрын
That’s fabulous to read, you’ll really see the benefits from a more neutral grip. It works with all clubs btw. Can’t wait to hear how you get on with your driver
@Koboltgolf
@Koboltgolf Жыл бұрын
@@JulianMellor so today I went to the range with this new neutral grip. It went great, great distance with my i7 and a high trajectory. After that it was time for the driver… my problem lately has been duffing it(hitting it way behind in the ground) so I finally found the problem today. I wasn’t driving my leadhip back at impact and didn’t really extend my wrist towards the ball at impact

@JulianMellor

Rolling of the arms is incorrect. The turning of the body moves the club into position then the wrists are set and released at impact.

"...both hands are working together..." How are they doing this? Are you squeezing with the hands? Are you pulling with the hands? Are you "flipping" the hands? Or are you merely holding on to the club with the hands while they do nothing else to add or detract from the golf swing. Because if that's all the hands are doing (as I have been taught by other pros), then I would not say the "hands are working together". "Working", to me, implies some action! So either these other pros are wrong or you are not adequately explaining what you mean when you say they are "working together". I have no idea what you're trying to say.

@@JulianMellor That video, unlike this one, was adequately explained. But now I'm as confused about your point of view as ever. No extra pressure or activity with the left hand. No extra pressure or activity with the right hand. So, once you get a nice light and equal grip on the club with both hands, you don't want either hand doing anything else. In my mind that does not equate to "working together". Instead I would say "not working at all", in that the hands do not help propel the club--they just lightly hold onto it while the body provides the power. Isn't that right? Because my whole purpose in watching the video in the first place was to try and settle in my mind once and for all as to whether or not you should consciously do anything with the hands during the golf swing. And, based on what I understand from you, I'd say you shouldn't. And if that's true, the phrase "...both hands are working together..." is quite misleading.
