At this year's Oculus Connect, we played a new VR game that may be our favorite virtual reality experience yet. Lone Echo is the first game we've played that lets us travel in real-time around its world without getting us sick. Its movement mechanic is ingenious!

they're both a better product, their's trade offs with both HMDS,. Do you want a larger FOV, or Sharper image? Multiple people in the room, or a camera, that can potentially track you're furniture in the future, but only allows one player at a time in one space. not to mention all of the exclusive technology that goes into rendering on the rift, like spacewarp.

The Rift has better image quality and better controllers. But as Jacob said, there are trade off between both systems. They're both good!

that sounds awful. adrift seemed more like a quick vr cash-in than something with mechanics that were built from the ground up for vr like this game. norm and jeremy say it here as well as during the latest vr minute(s), but apparently this game is incredible in mitigating motion sickness, especially considering how much 3d movement is actually involved in the gameplay.

+Arkadiem I feel real bad fer u and for anyone who has bodily weaknesses towards stereographic experiences... But I really wish such victims didn't need to share their weakness with everyone so vocally. I understand free speech and expression blah blah blah. But I already feel that such whining has already hurt my ability to enjoy my 3dvision experiences where such whining negatively impacts my interests. I would be more supportive if voicing such concerns might result in something positive. ( u folks are genetically engineered to not have pansy inner ear handling and weak stomachs making u stereo Macho mucho ) But that is not going to happen. So yer whining has nothing but negative impact! Negative results. You are sharing negativity. Whereas keeping yer mouth shut is positive. Has a positive effect. For the industry and all it's paychecks. For gamers who do not suffer the same issues and love their chaotic stereoscopic experiences. I liken it to the liquor industry. People who can not hold their liquor keep their miserable conditions to themselves. They do not go to bars and whine that alcohol makes them nauseous! How do you think that would be appreciated by those trying to escape to their corner haven fer a late night vacay? How does going online where stereoscopic interests are relevant and pointing out how nauseous stereo movement makes one any different? It is unreasonable. And economically mean when one considers that changing public opinion can have fiscally drastic impact? I do not think easily nauseous folks are mean spirited trolls? They r just unlucky and have not considered that over vocalizing their condition might hurt another person's interests! I should be able to have been gaming with three QHD monitors in 3dvision surround with SLI support for a while now till VR became more viable with supported games. But the bugs with ROG swift has made it an either or experience unless one was very lucky. ( I am stuck with 3 27 inch FHD acer s instead ) And now hardly no game takes 3dvision into consideration anymore. UDK use to work with 3dvision great by default. Now with Unreal Engine 4 I have to prey with every new release that 3dvision support is included. On the upside assets created with sterescopic consideration are a lot more convincing and charming than assets created with stereoscopic considerations as only an afterthought. Only now are a lot of devs realizing this as more "in VR asset creation tools like Unreal's VR editor" being concentrated on. We could have had a long legacy of DCC with concentration of stereo with 3dvision already! But now we are only playing catch up. And I am positive that the nay-saying is a leading determining factor that has had a horrible negative impact. One can call anything based on technology a gimmick. With enough voices louder than everyone else that opinion will be adverse. Heck 24 frames a second to give the illusion of life is a special effect. One can then argue that the cinematic experience is a gimmick. Don't understand why we can't have our gimmick. When it doesn't hurt negative opinion to keep it to themselves if there is no positive effect in stating their negative view.

LilRedRasta Yeah, I wish there was some ultimate solution, treadmills could be an option, but they're big, expensive and don't work that well to be honest. Anyway hand locomotion in this game at least is genius.
@LilRedRasta
@LilRedRasta 7 жыл бұрын
+Mythrintia they should hire a company who is experienced at making treadmills for exercise. The gaming community might not be the best to solve the issue. I think a solution is out there. People just have to innovate on current gym technology. I also have some ideas that would take treadmills beyond just walking and running . Sadly I'm an idea guy and not a nuts and bolts guy. I don't have the tools to make it happen.
@mythrin
@mythrin 7 жыл бұрын
LilRedRasta I can relate, if I was an engineer I would have changed the world by now. But inventions will forever be doodles in my notebook. But yeah I agree the gaming industry alone isn't enough to make something that requires psychical movement. I was thinking if they used advanced software to calculate stride length, speed, direction, while using a well built treadmill with friction simulation and advanced motors that could change pace accordingly with the person.

Really looking forward to stuff like this. Gamepad games got old really fast in VR. hand presence is where it's at. I can't count how many times I've been playing a VR gamepad game on my Rift where I've thought: "This is cool, but maaaan, would it be cooler if I could actually see my hands in here". I think that's where VR gets interesting for me in the long run. Having the HMD is no doubt a really cool experience. And I still love playing certain games and checking out new weird new demos. BUT, immersion is something that is greatly connected with presence. And presence is hands. We all know that weird image of a human where they've enlarged the parts of the body where he have the most sense. And there's a reason that model has large hands. Presence comes, not only from what you see, but to a very large degree, from what you reach out and grab for. I mean, it's one of the first things a baby learns. Clearly that shows how highly it is prioritized by the brain for getting a feel for the space you inhabit.

@merrickx
@merrickx 7 жыл бұрын
I mean... an air atmosphere doesn't create THAT much friction. Buuuttt.. I imagine the slow-down is kind of necessary, considering you don't actually throw your weight around, so you could easily, in VR, throw yourself at ridiculous speeds.
@luxource
@luxource 7 жыл бұрын
+Zwenk Wiel You said a couple of correct things without properly understanding them. Yes, the gravity on ISS is about the same as on Earth, but it is not the gravity itself that gives you the absence of weight on the orbit. You weight nothing because you are constantly freely falling together with ISS itself, which means you and ISS have the same accelleration (g). Therefore nothing is changing your relative velocity inside ISS if you are not touching anything, so you can fly straight. And you do not need to be in vacuum to experience weightlessness, air only adds a tiny drag. You can be on ISS, falling elevator or a falling plane.
