Very nice review of this scope. Mine arrives tomorrow, I also ordered Starizona's flattener designed for the Evoguide. Appreciate your coverage of this versatile scope.

I use my 50ED as a guide scope on my 8" RC and as a lunar scope. It works very well in either mode.

I would consider the Evostar 72ED to be more of an alternative to the Redcat. But it was nice to know all the uses the Evoguide can provide. Clear skyes!
@andreaminoia20024 жыл бұрын
Physically the two are rather different. The 72ed has larger aperture and much longer focal length. They do not play in the same field in my view

This looks really appealing. I was planning on getting a guide scope and trying to guide with the star adventurer. I have the rokinon 135mm, so I am not sure how often I would use this scope over the 135mm for imaging. Had no idea they made a flattener for this.
@andreaminoia20024 жыл бұрын
Have both of them and very pleased with their results. But the evoguide needs a careful thinking to decide if is worthy for you. Is not an imaging scope for everyone. As per guiding the sammy on the star adventurer the zwo miniscope 30/120 f4 or any other miniscope is enough: cheaper and lightweight. I guide it with the zwo miniscope and no problem. Only for guiding the sammy this evoguide is an overkill I'm afraid

Durening the summer I bought this at first light optics and I must say this guide scope is one serous piece of kit. How do you get the dove tail off? What tool should I use or should I keep it on? I'm interested in using it as deep sky imaging and guide scope. I also bought the skywatcher 72ed ds pro refractor and star adventurer as a portable setup. So interesting what you say about this little scope!

Bella recensione! Come ai fatto per aggiungere un guisdescope sopra l'Evoguide? Vorrei usarlo anche come telescopio per immagini con un guida Omegon.
@andreaminoia20023 жыл бұрын
Grazie.

I just received my ZWO ASI533 camera and mounted on my Astro-Tech AT65EDQ (420mm) scope so now large DOS's like Andromeda and the Heart Nebula don't fit the FOV. I was thinking of a reducer, but don't think it would reduce it enough. I already have a cheap ebay 50mm guide scope, but was thinking about mounting this next to my current guide scope and using the ASI533 in this scope to image those large objects. hhmmmmmmm Thanks for all the info...
@andreaminoia20024 жыл бұрын
I think the problem will be the strong field curvature typical of guiding scope. The evoguide shows a lot of curvature even with a 1" sensor camera (asi183mc) if I don't use the flattener
@mwales21124 жыл бұрын
@@andreaminoia2002 Oh yes I would have to use the flattener, but what a cool setup. Thanks for the video..

Hey nice review, I have one myself now for guiding. My question is, how did you manage to get the finderscope piece on there? My screws won’t get loose and are getting damaged now.
@andreaminoia20023 жыл бұрын
mine is the first version and came mounted light that. i could not choose between the dovetail and the finder scope foot. but the foot came out easily. maybe some svitol on the screw to help loosen them?

To big for me. I am using an Evolux 62ED as Main scope. So i need an 30mm guidescope to have a good mix. And the SVBONY guidescope is better than the ZWO, but i hate the brand SVBONY in general.

@@andreaminoia2002 ,Is There a Difference Using The Skywatcher FF
@andreaminoia20024 жыл бұрын
@@PafMedic yes. The skywatcher allows for 17.5 mm backfocus, just enough for using cooled and uncooled cameras such as the zwo asi. The starizona has a 34mm backfocus and you could reach focus with a mirrorless camera. There is no field flattener at the moment that will let you focus with a dslr camera, which requires longer backfocus
@nielsdekruijk3 жыл бұрын
Can I use this scope, the 50ED FF and a mirrored DSLR? I read things about backfocus problems. If so, how can I fix those (Extension tube??)?
@andreaminoia20023 жыл бұрын
Hi. You can use it with a mirrorless or DSLR no problem, as long as you don't mind field curvature (e.g. shooting at the Moon). For deep sky you want to have a field flattener. the one available from skywatcher has only 16.5mm of back focus: this is too short for a mirrorless, let alone for a DSLR. I was in contact with starizona and they claim their new evoFF field flattener will have enough back focus for mirrorless and DSLR cameras. starizona.com/products/evoff-field-flattener-for-skywatcher-evoguide-50ed they told me (I was interested in getting one) it should be available mid July 2021
@nielsdekruijk3 жыл бұрын
@@andreaminoia2002 can I also get back focus by using extension tubes or something?
@andreaminoia20023 жыл бұрын
@@nielsdekruijk no, you cannot. the problem is that you would need to make the sensor closer to the back of the flattener more than physically possible. you can use the extensions to match a back focus that is longer than the flattener-sensor distance you would get by attaching the camera directly to the flattener. if the back focus is too short, there is nothing you can do except accepting a lower image quality. How lower I cannot say
@nielsdekruijk3 жыл бұрын
@@andreaminoia2002 okay, I'll just wait for the new flattener

Thanks. You must get the evoff field flattener from starizona to have a correct circle that will cover the asi294 sensor. It may show some vignetting but should calibrate out with proper flats
