Does it get better than RAW + frame averaging + bracketing??? (BTW, I made mistakes with my mic setup when recording. Will sound much better next time!)

Nice hands-on video. Thanks for your efforts and your critique! For sure there is room for refinement in the user interface. Seeing you taking a 3 seconds shot for checking the exposure, confirms the usefulness of one of the next features to arrive, which is just a non-averaged test shot including the bracketed one if bracketing is active. This really help to achieve the maximum image quality and therefore is just on top of my list of features to be added. File format indicator as well;-)

I've already installed the app this week and I've done some tests. I haven't subscribed to the option for RAW files yet, but even so, it's without a doubt an extraordinary app without a rival worthy of mention. Those who consider the app expensive have no idea that a quality ND filter for a DLSR costs five times as much.

@@PGNogueira are you sure??? i had found that the interval time was for the automatically stacking of frames inside the app. which means when you set the long exposure for example 10min then the app will shot in interval shot inside it but will result in 1 image only. meaning pressing the shutter button once will result only in 1 image.

On iphone 12 (not pro) is it possible to shot RAW even with the ultra wide lens? or is it available only for the wide one? Thanks

Hi David, Thanks for the video, really useful. I have been using Even Longer for a week now trying to see how it performs. Interestingly I seem to have found a challenge for the app when recording a long exposure of a burbling stream that is flowing quite quickly. It was a sunny day with the sun reflected off the water. Rather than resulting in an image with a smooth flow I find that the image is quite speckled rather than smooth. I assume this is because the splashing water is captured as discrete changes to the image when in FA mode. I also found that on the edge of the reflected area there was a purple colour aberration. This also occurred on a smooth sea image, a purple fringe on the edge of the reflected sun. Have you come across this or do have any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong or how to fix it"?
@David_Addison2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, yes I came across this myself in the exact same situation. It's probably the most challenging situation you can capture RAW long exposures in with your phone. Yes, if the water is splashing then all of those little chaotic changes in direction will be capture, and it won't be helped by the speckling of the light reflecting off the water into the lens; but you can get rid of the purple fringing by decreasing the saturation of purples and pinks in your photo editor. Personally, I just went back to the location when the sun wasn't so harsh. It meant 4 hours of driving but that's what I did 😆 you can see the photos in question here kzbin.info/www/bejne/aX3Gk6KEhLhqr68 if you skip to around 7:55

I am getting very average results using this app so far, it really struggles with dark areas often leaving them pretty underexposed, then if I compensate it blows the skies out, am I missing something? I do not have the pro version yet and so I am waiting to get to understand this app better
@schretter13 жыл бұрын
David,. Thank you for bringing this app into the "light". It is hard to keep track without your testing. In would assumed that this is true RAW and not PRORAW. Thus does the app use a fixed exposure over the entire capture interval or is exposure changed for each actual snapshot taken? E.g if the sun goes in and out during the 10 minute interval. Wouldn't using the HDR built into the iPhone and hence JPG give us better dynamic range for overall shot?
@David_Addison3 жыл бұрын
No it's not ProRAW, and yes it's a fixed exposure over the course of the capture. While iPhone JPEGs use special processing like HDR to capture more of a tonal range, you don't actually get a higher dynamic range file, just a file with the appearance of having a higher dynamic range due to compression and tone mapping. My next video might demonstrate this for you 😃 stay tuned!
@schretter13 жыл бұрын
@@David_Addison Thanks for your reply and I'm looking forward to your next video. Your are more precise than me. Yes the iPhone is not achieving the real dynamic range of DSLRs by its little trickery, but as you know photography is based on first the range of light we can actually collect and then a set of compress and tone mapping exercises to enable display on our computers or devices and then some more so we can print the image. Apple just cheats and adds an additional one in the original collection phase.
@schretter13 жыл бұрын
While this app does do fine for stationary subjects it still does not provide the long exposures needed to capture motion such as figure skating etc with the iPhones. The iPhone only allows third party apps a max of 1 sec exposure time and actually can use up to 2 sec exposures in its own lower light mode. Other phones can keep the shutter open up to 10 sec and under the correct light create great shots of movement. It would be fantastic if this app could somehow do that. David said the Mario knows how to get real light trails with this app (coming soon?) and maybe that will help with capturing motion with slow shutter.

Is there a way to stop saving the pictures in the file system? Given that they are stored on the camera roll, and unless I missed something, I find this feature quite useless and obviously, it doubles the amount of storage used by the app.
