First, I really appreciate the time and effort you put into this. The low-light capabilities are what I've been waiting to see, and it did not disappoint in the slightest. Incredibly clean at 1250, and it is clear you can easily film night scenes with minimal light. Love it

Yes it's good, but I still need to test it against the BMPCC6K. I think they might be very close to be honest, but the full frame is noticeable more clean with less chroma noise from the very first tests I am doing at home. It's all a working progress so will keep you guys updated!

I wished they moved the dual gain ISO further apart. I find the S5 clean 4000 iso a bit more useful. I would like this feature not to turn night to day, but to able to use smaller apertures (making cheaper lenses usable at night) and to also be able to use lower power LED lights (that are cheaper, more power efficient making the battery last longer, etc)

The native ISO is 400 and 3200, however the second Kicks in at 1250 (clean) by the time you get to 3200 there is noise that you need to clean up in software. Panasonic second native kicks in at 4000 so its clean at this ISO.@@captainradio5894

Good stuff Matteo! Colors are amazing (look a bit like Ursa 12K) and probably the reason why I'll switch from the pocket 4K, together with the L-mount and very interesting resolution options. The framerate options are kind of strange though and no prores, although not horrible, is also a bummer (but you get proxies in return so... thats nice). In terms of "low light", ISO 2500 is already a bit rough I can tell, needs denoising which isnt the worst but still. 3200 looks to be almost "unusable" (I spot some pattern noise as well) and almost seems worse than on the pocket 4K (I dont have FPN on 3200 I mean... and maybe slightly less noise) ? Hard to tell on KZbin. Very curious for the comparison with the 6K. I wonder what that will reveal in terms of the DR etc.

If you had a Red camera, people will most likely feel more self conscious around you because they will know its a filmmaker's camera.

First, congratulate you on your work and thank you for sharing it. Regarding the night shots, they seem to me to have a great richness of colors, and that the camera sees the tones of the blacks very well without paste them and for me the appearance is very filmic, I have seen other night shots with A7s'/FX3 and I don't think that the color and black reproduction has that quality, even though they produce less noise and you can use higher ISOs that produce unreal and synthetic images compared to human vision. What do you think about it or how would you compare them?
@matteobertoli
@matteobertoli Жыл бұрын
I own a ZV-E1 (same FX3 and A7s III sensor) and I tested out the A7s III at night against the Pocket before (there is a video on my channel). First of all I find it completely crazy that if I wanna get "clean" low light footage I have to switch to 12800 ISO. Found myself having to use a ND at night in the streets of Lisbon, which is quite stupid to be honest. Second, I think Sony it does an incredible poor job at managing mixed color temperatures and street lights. The fall off is super harsh and you get a lot of green/yellow cast on the skin tones. And as you said the blacks are not true blacks, they are a bit washed out. I don't know why everyone is praising that camera for low light stuff. I think the FX30 is much better, at least second ISO is at 3200 and it looks pretty decent. I also still wondering if that is a true second ISO (which I doubt) or it's a big badass denoiser just kicking in.
@Fedorevsky
@Fedorevsky Жыл бұрын
Yeah it's nuts I've seen videos if people using nd filters for shooting at night with that sensor, also the images look very processed on that super high second native iso, on the fx6 where you can turn off the noise reduction the 12800 iso is much noisier so it seems like it's noise reduction used to make this supposed second native iso
@moviemachcinema
@moviemachcinema Жыл бұрын
Mateo, I do not have the BMPCC-6KFF, but I really like the results, the image is closer to the analog, I really like the treatment of colors and blacks, the night looks night and it seems enough to work with minimal lighting without needing large lights. On the other hand, the camera allows you to work in full frame with the lenses you want using the appropriate adapter (it is a dream for any filmmaker to be able to choose the lens you like the most). Yes, the body is plastic, and the shape is ....well......., but the image it gives you is spectacular, and also raw. Many criticisms of only 13 stops, but with 13 stops great films have been shot like jumper, 2012 ice age, etc... and in super 35, and the BMPCC 6kFF is also FF. I think in the right hands you can do whatever you want with this camera.@@matteobertoli

I also like the weight to get rid of micro jitters. If Blackmagic used this sensor and gave it a faster processor to do 6kFF @ 120 FPS, I think they would have a hard time keeping them in stock. Hi Matteo. Great looking footage from the new BMCC. How do you think is it would be great in HDR workflows? The 12-bit BRAW codec for 10-bit delivery is great obviously. And how do you think the image would stretch to HDR? Thank you. I'm aiming on shooting in studio, but with wide color and brightness in specular highlights and light sources in frame. I have great experience in SDR with BMPCC4k With your gorgeous Buttery LUT. Actually I have downloaded some source files from blackmagic site. And I Like what I see in HDR... Just interesting what you think of it. Thank you very much.

Seems weird, but I am not interested in HDR at all. It’s already a mess with iPhone footage and it looks terrible when you upload it on KZbin. To be honest there is already so many information in both shadows and highlights that I don’t really feel the need to watch it in HDR and go through that terrible workflow. It’s fantastic already

So many questions… total MP count? What’s the base ISO? Dual? I know it uses the L mount, will there be an EF option? Any Autofocus? Based on your comments, I assume it has no in-body nor digital IS… I’m a canon/Sony shooter but I use Resolve for editing and I’ve been very curious to try a blackmagic camera for the raw files.

@JaimeAndresMedia

@@matteobertoli yeah, the fact that’s a cinema camera doesn’t really negate the opportunity to have autofocus, many canon and Sony cinema cameras now have autofocus and digital IS, and have had it for years. Seems like a missed opportunity considering today’s market, and for the love of God, please get a decent microphone with a deadcat, the audio on this video is jarring

Thank you this is great footage. Very impressive. I am not a camera complainer I am absolutely excited when the technology is pushed and the price is reasonable, I say to filmmakers get to work part time you push this camera through a project a new camera will be arriving with a little better features back in the day. We did so many things to get a good digital image. This is before DSLR‘s and all the stuff this stuff at this price is absolutely amazing. Get to work make movies.

Hi Matteo, Does this camera got auto focus? All the shots you get is using manual focus or? like the walking scene you have, is it your hand pulling the focus by manual or you use the auto focus?

"gyro works much better than any IBIS I tested!" you can't compare. if you use Gyro you will have to stab in post so it will crop. IBIS you have full sensor (or 90% minimum when it is boosted like on my gfx100S, and my stab is rad on this cam). IBIS avoid you to get strange/weird effects sometimes in post when you stab the gyro.
@matteobertoli
@matteobertoli Жыл бұрын
lol. Have you ever used IBIS? It's terrible and you get weird wobbling effects all the time. Tested on the Fuji and Sony and it looks bad. Even with a little movement it gets messy. With gyro I had zero problems and it works much better than any IBIS I used.

It's a great camera for sure, but the loss of internal NDs for a larger sensor is a pretty bad trade-off for me. Image quality was always BM's strong suit and it stays that way with this new BMCC, but the less-than-ideal form factor went pretty much unaddressed and that was the main downside users found
@matteobertoli
@matteobertoli Жыл бұрын
Form factor for me and other thousands of people is simply fantastic. As I already said, if you want a cube just move on and get a Komodo, Zcam, Kinefinity. This camera was thought for being both run and gun with built in monitor, but also a full production camera when you rig it up. It’s not that hard to understand how useful a 5” built in monitor really is if you don’t want to rig it

I think more DR would make the image much more natural, such as the shot of ship, now it seems crushing the shadow area, not natural to me. and BTY why do you put a green tape to cover up the BMD logo?

It’s night and it was pitch black. Shadows are gonna be shadows. Dynamic range is insane on this camera. Tape was to cover the logo
