Hands-on with the Riflespeed Gas System on an 11.5" AR Upper Receiver

The change ability of the rifle speed system is interesting, only one drawback is I haven’t seen mentioned is bleed off at the block. Have found Superlative Arms adjustable gas block bleeds excessive gas off at the block which is less in your face. Have used suppressed and unsuppressed and found to function well. Both 5.56 and 300 Blk Have not tried all variants of subsonic bullet weights Just FYI.

Really appreciate this video. One of the better ones on the riflespeed gas block. I’ve got a build in mind and this is what it’s built around. I would like to get the barrel from him so it has the cross bolt drilled by the maker. I wonder how much this matters?

My real question is if their uppers as complete uppers are any good? If their uppers are high quality, I would just as soon get the full upper and have more peace of mind that the system will perform harmoniously as intended.

I thought about buying one of these because I will be shooting a 11.5 with a proof research barrel with a .70 gas size hole. I’m pretty sure that the .70 is on the small size so it probably won’t be overgassed anyway but since I will have it suppressed I was thinking it might keep some of the gas out of my face. Do you recommend this still or would it be better to just put a regular gas block and not go the adjustable route?

There are lots of ARs that use straight gas tubes. The tubes cost $16 and are readily available.

Colt 6940 uses a straight gas tube..They are easy to find, not a problem..@@SFGiantsfan9797

Any adjustable gas block will only restrict the gas available. It is adjustable within that variable..If the rifle is under gassed to begin with, the adj gas block will do no good...The Rifle speed adj gas clock is the nest evolution in design for repair, maintenance and ease of use...I wish they would get their .625 blocks on market...

Not sure I understand this comment. Are you saying that the RS AGB is superior to other AGBs in that regard or the value of an AGB in general over standard blocks or just that you need the right gas system based on your barrel length and ammo?

@@illestdomer2005 An adj gas block works when a rifle is over gassed..Many manufacturers will over size (over gas) their rifles so they will function with the lower end of the spectrum ammunition..This can result in an over gassed rifle using high pressured NATO spec ammunition..When using a suppressor, it will also over gas the rifle.. If a rifle is under gassed to begin with, an adj gas block is worthless.. Adj gas blocks can not increase the barrel port pressure if it is undersized.. The Rifle Speed gas block is the best on the market and worth every cent. It has made other adj gas blocks obsolete..

@@hairydogstail thanks for the reply! That’s an issue I am dealing with now: undergassed 16” 5.56 barrel. It makes me all the more intrigued to pick up a RS upper for a new 300blk build where I plan to run subs for suppresses bliss and supers potentially.

Really should have labeled all the clips. Some of those looked incredibly overgassed and bad.

I had planned to, but it basically worked out that the gun would not function unsuppressed at 4...regardless of ammo. A setting 5 and 6 was the sweet spot for all of the ammo I used (75 grain Frontier, 62-grain Lake City green tip, Winchester M193, and Wolf 223.) and any higher would have been silly. Dialing it up past that was not ideal. TBH, I thought there would be more variation than there ended up being. Same deal suppressed...everything worked (last round bolt hold open) at 2, and to go higher would have been pointless.
