If your question is genuine, then let me answer. The consesus is that it is haram, and a minority of scholars believe there is no harm if you are not preoccupied to a degree that you forget your obligations towards yourself family and community. In his case, he is so good that he fulfills his financial obligations through chess. He should keep playing maintaining his other responsibilities and being respectful (in his culture by not touching nonrelative women) towards fellow chess players, including women. I see a lot of indians leaving hateful comments, but I sincerely pray that they get busy with their own obligations. I recently reads milllions of women report rape or groping in India, particularly in Hindu majority districts. I’m sure you can solve as your country produces veru bright people

The thing was some time after the 2022 chess olympiad in Chennai Yakkuboev and other Uzbek grandmasters had some problem with the Indian chess officials which lead Yakkuboev to say that Uzbek grandmasters will not be playing in India anymore . Don't know the exact date and tournament they boycotted (searched for it but couldn't find ) but i think it was 2024 or 2023 . Yakkuboev had no problems shaking Divya's hand before but now he wanted to make a point of his animosity when Vaishali was around . The backlash that followed with India emerging as a chess superpower and Anand being the vice-president of FIDE probably made the Uzbekistan chess federation realise that Yakkuboev had unwittingly poked a sleeping bear both on board (Vaishali) and off it (the indian chess federation and FIDE) . The Uzbekistan chess federation probably leant on Yakkuboev to issue the apology on Twitter using his religion as an excuse . Yakkuboev was advised to at least do namaste if he wasn't going to shake hands . 😂😂

His apology is a lie because even if you cannot shake hands, which is disrespectful in itself and cannot be excused based on 1000s of years old bedouin custom, there are other modes of greeting and acknowledging without touching which he didn't. Add into it the fact that he had actually shaken hands before, it appears to be further disrespect. If FIDE cannot maintain it's own regulations and take strict measure against such unruly behavior, no wonder it is in decline.

Well, if you watch Tata Steel Chess Tournament round 1 footage (at 21:12) you will see that he didn't at all froze when Divya offered her hand. He didn't shake it, but he offered his hand back, made a fist and they fist bumped. To Vaishali he just made a small gesture with left hand, declining the handshake. And I guess it is up to him to decide how exactly greet another player. It might be more socially acceptable though if he did it with little bit more respect.
