Rather than thinking that being a seasoned spinner is just about refined skills I leave here loving the craft more! As a fairly novice spinner your wisdom is encouraging!

You’ve inspired me to join in. I’m using what I have - unidentified roving, pretty certain that it’s wool, just not sure of the breed. I’ve been a spinner since the early 80’s but I have neglected the craft and needed motivation to get back to it. Thank you for the inspiring videos and advice.

I have my fiber spun up and I am knitting my socks, have I posted a photo yet of my spinning? Nope, I am so far behind LOL - Have a wonderful week Cary, enjoy the sunshine.

Another lovely video to watch. Loved seeing the sheep - they do seem to love getting their heads covered in hay. Your spinning samples look fabulous - great colours. I haven’t sampled - I’ve went straight from spin to knitting my socks.

My sock saga continues... My majacraft suzi has broken down, trying to source bobbins for my Sheridan and the squishy sock fleece I was to be getting is no longer happening 😕 Fingers Xed that something works out and I can join in. The Harlequin sounds to be an interesting breed. You are lucky to have access to so many more breeds of sheep than we have over here. Woolly Huggs Lyn

I don't know how it will work out as I've not ever spun for socks but I have shetland and some silk that I have used to made a small batt. I have that spun up and hope to make more batts. It's really nice shetland! Thanks for your work on this effort! Hoping to try and spin that next batt tighter on the singles.

Just wanted to tell you that you're such a an inspiration to me. I have bought a big piece of land with an old farmhouse with the intention to get some sheep eventually to go with my goats and hens, and watching your videos is so much fun as I begin my own journey.

Oh this is so exciting, how wonderful! And congratulations on your making this journey ❤️ Thank you, too, for your very kind words! I'm going to have another episode about raising sheep, answering some questions about how we do things here (just my own experience of course, but I get questions 😊) Hopefully I'll have that up before end of February!

My previous (and only) sock spin (so far), ended up being approx a commercial 4ply. That was my intention, but I didn't think I'd get it, so I'm not sure my tips are very useful. I used a fairly smooth blend of corriedale, shetland and nylon with some merino. Everything was stripped down into little nests, then pre-drafted before I spun each one. It just made the spin very easy to draft consistently. And of course, it took FOREVER to get through 3 single plys that fine. The spin I'm working on now (just finished the 3rd single🎉) is absolutely not as consistent and I'm sure it's because it's a different mix of fibres, one is a little felted and I definitely haven't prepped them as well. 🤷🏻♀️

Lovely! Those sock sets look incredible! Your videos have made me quite curious about the Corriedale Alpaca blends. Being in Canada, I've been looking for closer to home sources and have found a Romney with Alpaca I might try due to your influence. I'm still spinning my third ply - it's still TBD whether or not my yarn will be sock-worthy. I'm spinning a 3 ply hoping to get a thicker yarn, as my previous yarn ended up a thin (and lumpy) lace weight - good for a shawl but not socks. If this one isn't sock worthy I will try spinning the commercial Corriedale next I think.

Greetings, Cary, as I'm watching this video I'm spinning up Grey Suffolk combed roving I got from Paradise fibers year ago and has been hiding in my back-of-the-closet stash. I went looking for and found it when looking for something to ply with the handspun mohair that I'm experimenting with. I may have mentioned this already, but my first experiment is one ply Suffolk and one ply mohair. I realize that's probably too much mohair but I'm curious. My second experiment will be to blend together (on my drum carder) about 25% mohair and 75% Suffolk. But I'm not there yet.

Oh and I love a good Suffolk wool to spin! Will look forward to your experiments ❤️

To keep their fleece as clean as possible 😊 You saw them munching away on their hay? That ends up in the wool and since most of our wool goes for handspinning, we like it to be as clean as possible. Thank you for the question ❤️
