....and of course, the demonetization algorithm strikes again! I'm trying asbestos can, but apparently if I even mention asbestos in the video, it gets demonetized. I even posted it early to the patrons and it was fine. Bummer, since I started this one in April and it was a lot of work. This reminds me why the patrons are so important to this channel's continuation, especially as the projects get bigger. I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle kzbin.infoUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.

Much enjoyed! So smart to check all four of the wires in spite of reading continuity between the two ends and none between one end and the housing. Weird things do happen. One thought, in a splice like that if you need support or a wear point, you can wrap a piece of wire tie in the tape. You can even pre shape short pieces with heat before hand. Love your channel, keep up the great work!

Never strip out? I've drilled out many. And they may as well be prison shanks for how much stabbing they do.
@randomguy939846 жыл бұрын
@@wreckandraceify if you strip out a flathead screw you have a bigger problem. I have personally never stripped one out. In fact a lot of the time you can grind a slot into a bolt and use one of those drivers that turn when you hit it with a hammer and back out the bolts with a flathead. Or "standard" as the upright woodworkers call it. You are right on the stabbing but I would still much rather have a screwdriver slip off a few times than have to spend 2 hours with an easy out bashing my skull in.
@theghostofthomasjenkins96434 жыл бұрын
@@randomguy93984 you can grind a slot into any bolt head, though, be it phillips, allen, star, or whatever if it strips. and yes, i've seen many flatheads stripped out. they aren't any easier than the alternative. they are just more of a pain when they work as designed than the others.

Nice work! It came out awesome. 😊👍 One thing tho, you should terminate those cables better. Electric tape is not enought protection when sitting so close to a metal chassi. You should use heatshrink tubing or better cut of the access of the cable ending and use shielded crimpterminals. Some heat and vibrations and you may have an shocking experience. Better safe than sorry. Keep up the good work!

Labeling and video are great for remembering where things go. Additionally, most electric or gas motors are built the same as most other electric or gas motors. Windings, bearings, carburetors, spark plugs, etc for each respectively. I can't speak for anyone else, although I'm sure other people are the same, but when reassembling something, I find a lot of part locations/assembly orders just fall into place naturally in my mind. Doesn't mean I always get it right the first time, but it does help.

I love you, Hand Tool Rescue guy. This restoration took me back to being a little girl and watching my dad cut wood with his chainsaw. I like the fact this massive motor is exposed to the elements, but you mention the flimsy gaskets for the two maintenance doors on it :) I suppose you COULD have put a sort of air filter behind the motor grill, but then... it wouldn't have been authentic. Of course, if you produce enough fine sawdust while cutting, you would have a free lighter, what with the sparking of the motor and all... and that lubrication oil would be excellent fuel to keep it all burning. Nice restoration and a thumbs up!

Yes, the ring terminals. If you look at the other connection with the blue at 10:19, that's how I would have used the heatshrink tube. And the solder joint should be concave for proper soldering, but since it's clamped down it should be fine. It's probably going to be safe but everything I wrap in electric tape usually end-up unwrapping.

Easy way to prevent tape unwrapping is to apply a small zip-tie over it. Shrink wrap looks better but it's kinda thin, on a high current wire multiple layers of tape make better insulation. I learned this the hard way on an old Soviet vacuum cleaner, took a nasty shock from that mfkr...
