Making parametric design wall [art wall]

This is the art wall production and installation process of Chilgok National Forest Gymnasium in Korea.
It is a bulky work that contains a total of 40 birch plywoods.
It came out almost similar to the sketch, so I finished it pleasantly.
The manufacturing process was harder and more difficult than installation, and above all, the loading process was more difficult than expected because it was bulky.
It seems to have the charm of a parametric design that can create a formative and special atmosphere on the plain wall.

Only change I would make is to use full plywood sheet instead of the horizontal battens. That way they don’t disrupt the view from a head on angle.

This is a matter that has been fully negotiated with the client. That approach has been considered, but there are other reasons for not doing so.

I thought it also spoiled it, but i imagine it is good to have for structural integrity due to its height; however, a slightly curved batten wouldnt cast a shadow as the existing one does so could be nicer on the eye.

With everything looking like a new installation why not replace the offending middle brace by screwing in from the other side of the wall. It would make it harder to remove later but if they can afford to install it they should be able to afford ripping out the wall later.

I don't like the look of the horizontal bar/plank. However, I don't know what techniques (not a wood worker) could replace it. Without it, I assume, there would be warping. Perhaps a full length vertical plank would look better? That's the only nitpick. Good job on this!

The horizontal support is disastrous for a job of this scale. A bad decision to make such a minimal structure. The scale of the work would have deserved a more professional finish and decisions. Unfortunately, this is what happens when the customer limits the budget and the manufacturers want to show off. But the result is a lack of consistency. A lack of maturity! But the effect is extraordinary.

Next time you do one of these, perhaps a thicker ply panel for the backing strips and then cut channels for each of your panels to slot into. Would eliminate the need for a spacer then

Great idea but unlike MDF, plywood thicknesses can be inconsistent depending on the manufacturer. I've seen up to +/- 0.5mm which could lead to channels that are either too tight (a nightmare to fix) or too loose (visible gap). In addition a lot more milling on the CNC and the larger back panel would add material and paint labor cost. I feel the approach Handwerker took in this video is very effective! @@w2ttsy670

I think that it can be more than just a wall with a wavy surface. This can be some sort of a book shelf or a place to hang out things. This can generalized to modular furniture. These installations may have actual function.

I am trying to make the same Parametric Wall feature to offer my commercial customers but i am having difficulty with it, I have tried to draw it on Sketchup but it came out with facets, none of the curves are smooth, what software do you use and does it splice and lay flat your components. I no longer use Sketchup I currently use Alphacam Thank you
