Klaus Johann knows exactly how furniture used to be built. The master carpenter from Kennfus in the Eifel region wants to preserve traditions. That's why he still occasionally makes pieces of furniture in his workshop using neither screws nor nails. His latest project is a chest made from oak wood from his own forest. Klaus Johann relies on traditional woodworking techniques when building.
Old joining techniques such as the dovetail joint are particularly durable. However, they also require a high level of craftsmanship. The carpenter uses traditional tools such as a handsaw, chisel and mallet to build the chest. The rounded lid is finished with a ship's plane and scraper. The front is decorated with carvings.
