This music is suddenly taking me back to a time when I was an adolescent girl, about the early 90's. My entire family had a barbecue in the closest national park. After dinner a group of us went into the town site, which was about a 5 minute walk from where the BBQ stations were. I went into one of the most beautiful gift shops that I'd ever been in. Music similar to this was playing on a large cassette and CD stand. I was looking at little porcelain animal ornaments and decided to spend the money my mom gave me for ice cream on a small porcelain Siamese cat, which I still have today. Isn't it wonderful how memories you thought were forgotten are triggered by sounds/smells and tastes?

That's called an anker or anchor. Its a memorie print made by sound, smell, tast...the more senses you set 'ON' the more the memory will be kept close by. Whenever a loved one passes, i set an anker with a song. And whenever i hear this song, where ever i am, i think of this special person 💖 sweet memories

My view on losing all sense of self, is not that one needs to lose it, but let go of the importance one attaches to that sense of self. There's an aspect in the New Age philosophy, causing some of us to walk away from responsibility and float.

@@devonseamoor I agree with you completely. My understanding of Rumi's quote is basically what you wrote: "let go of the importance one attaches to that sense of self". I dislike assuming intent, but I believe Rumi was making the distinction between the individual sense of self and the idea that collectively we are all one. Understanding that we are no more important or special than anyone else opens our mind to a truer form of existence and a deeper empathy for all life. It allows us to cast off the constraints of the superficial culture in which we were raised and heightens our awareness of life itself by showing us that we are all connected in our struggle to find the path to enlightenment.
