A good way to make the Monty Hall problem make intuitive sense is to make the thought experiment larger. Think like this - you have 100 doors, you choose one. Monty then reveals all the doors except one. Do you switch doors? If you stay, you have 1/100 to be correct; if you switch doors, you have a 99/100 to be correct. With three doors, the same is true - switch doors and you have 2/3 to be correct, 1/3 if you stay.

More doors don't really help if you don't get the gimmick. The game is rigged such that switching doors always switches outcomes; it's impossible to change from a success to a success or a failure to a failure. The odds after switching is thus just the complement of the odds before.

Requisite Monty Hall explanation: the correct door is either the door you originally picked, or it's one of the two doors you didn't originally pick. If you stick to the original door you pick you're betting on the former, if you swap after Monty reveals the bad door you're betting you were wrong with your first pick. You always swap because you were probably wrong on your first pick. It's hard to understand because the math to prove it is un-intuitive, but if you think of it like swapping doors is always the right thing to do if your first guess was wrong it's more obvious.

with the bank computers, they're still running 1960's code, such as COBAL. since it's working too well after all these decades, it would be prohibitively expensive to do overhauls, not to mention that many people simply don't have the experience anymore. yes it's annoying, but that's how banks work. granted, i think we should get rid of them entirely, but that's probably not in many peoples political program.

I agree that non-profit banks would be ideal, but i feel like the only reason credit unions are able to actually work is because theyre relatively small and exclusive when compared to banks. If everyone had access to lower loan interest rates and higher savings interest/dividend rates then inflation would skyrocket. As much as it sucks to say, not everyone can "win" when it comes to money. Someone has to lose somewhere along the line. And even if all that was ignored, a big pro of credit unions comes directly from exclusivity. They are able to provide relatively small-scale loans to normal people just trying to live average lives at low interests rates because they dont have to worry about having enough money to cover the loans of millions of members (or toss out a massive loan for someone running/starting a business). Think of it like public school vs private school. A large part of why private schools work comes from the fact that theyre harder to get into, so they can offer things like smaller class sizes and more one on one time with professors. If every school was a private school then you would essentially just have public schools with extra steps (or a world where only a small portion of the population was allowed to get an education, which is probably not great). When it comes to banks and credit unions, it seems like in order for one to work effectively, the other has to exist. Its not like anyone is being forced to choose one or the other. Both are options depending on the consumers needs.
