Hang Out with This Homeschool Mom of 8 ║ School Week 17 │ ACE Curriculum

This week's homeschool blog starts with a minor injury and is packed with lots of fun at home. We end the week with a field trip to Teacher's Corner, which is a separate blog ( • Spacemen, Police Offic... ) . We use ACE Curriculum. Our kids are in 9th, 7th, 6th, 4th, 2nd and Kindergarten with two little girls that just hang out and have fun.

I've binge watched most of your videos over the last couple of weeks and I just love you and your family. The thumbnail of this video got me right in the heart. I've noticed how loving Tom is to the kids in multiple videos now and it's so nice to see. There's nothing that makes me happier than seeing a Dad openly hugging and loving his kids. In my opinion, the world needs a whole lot more Dads who aren't afraid of gentle, caring moments with their kids, especially sons. I just wanted to mention that. Thank you for sharing your lives with us.

Andrea Mills He does fantastic documentaries has travelled all over the world, and he is 90yrs old. I love watching his programmes, as do my dog she loves watching any animal programme

So I am a college student working towards my degree for special education. I'm currently in a math class to teach elementary schoolers. And we are working on different math algorithms! I noticed that your oldest daughter has trouble remembering which side of the problem to start on when doing math. This is common for almost all students her age. Would teaching her left-to-right, lattice, partial product, European etc. algorithms help instead? Then when she's older you can return to the standard algorithm. I have math dyslexia and literally just learned how to use the lattice algorithm to do math and it helps so much for me! I'm sad that I didn't learn it sooner, it would have saved me from a lot of frustrations in school! This is just a suggestion, do with it as you please!

Oh no... poor Claudia with het big egg on her forehead. Her hair is getting so long. She is definitely feisty. I love it. Is she a daddies girl? She always goes to him as soon as she sees him come in the room. I think it's adorable... It has been so much fun watching the kids change. It's amazing how fast kids grow up. Solomon never fails to make me laugh when doing his school. And I love how curious your kids are. What is that book that Eden was using? So cool. The library looks AWESOME! Your boys are so good with the littles. They are going to be great dads one day. God bless you and your family!

When I saw your kids doing regular math I almost cried. My son and I have been struggling with the whole common core thing in a online based public "homeschool" program. He will be going to a church school that uses ACE next year!

Random question that maybe you can cover on your next video. I know you handle most of any medical issues that arise (your bloody nose trick worked for me the other day), but what happens when it comes to your children dental problems? Has any of your children had to have any dental procedures done or any remedies to help? Love seeing the videos of your family.

We did! Thank you! I think we're going to have some clips of everyone trying the candy on our next school week video. We saved it for Sunday and after church our friends tried it all with us. The Lollies were much different than we were expecting and were very tasty. Eden, especially, love them. Your letter was very special, too. Your little kiddos (you and Tom as well) seem to be so healthy. I don't remember seeing any of them with even a sniffle in any of your videos. How do you keep them so heathy? Do you use oils?

Thankfully we don't get sick often. In December we had a mild head cold that went through the family, but it was barely noticeable. Next month's theme is going to be Healing at Home so I'll be making videos talking about what we do. I'm really excited for that theme!

I'd told Michael about Solomon's letter gluing exercises awhile back. He walked by tonight while I was knitting and watching this video and he said, "Why is that kid putting popcorn on the "K?" hahahaha I laughed so hard I almost stabbed myself. Oh, boy. It's a brainy one over here.

I'm always experimenting with things and was making an ointment that's supposed to be a digestive aid. It had a lot of essential oils in it so Mr. Solomon didn't like the smell.

I remember a little while ago you were doing the sticker lanyard with your littles to help them understand consequences of their behaviour, is there any reason you stopped doing that or did you just find a better alternative?

It worked just fine. I planned for it to be a temporary measure because I know how life goes. (Yes, they're both lost now! We did find Solomon's a couple of days ago.) A lot of times when I do stuff like that, it's just a short-term "boot camp" to get us on the right track. If we need it again I'll make new ones (or pull out the old ones if we have them.)

Why don't you teach the kids the letters of the alphabet in order? Is it just the order that the paces come in? Just curious!!

They learn them in phonetic order (most common letters first.) Next year when Solomon learns to read he'll be able to sound out words right away with the first few letters we do. He'll also learn the alphabet song next year.

If someone isn't feeling well they can rest for the day, but it's very rare that it happens. I think there was only one child who took a day off because they didn't feel good this whole year. (I'm actually not even sure it happened once. I guess I could look back through all the school vlogs and see!)

I think it's called 7 Days to Die. Every 7 days a zombie horde comes so they have 7 days to build houses, gather supplies, etc. It's cute listening to them all cooperating and planning out strategies.

use healthy choice dog food and it has to be lamb and rice once you start feeding him that in about 3 weeks he will not scratch and his skin will turn normal

Poor guy! What happened? We're starting to sort through our keepsakes and pictures. We found Thomas' cast from when he broke his arm. It was a rough day that day!

My son didnt say how it happened. My daughter broke both bones just below the elbow when she was. 17 months old. Was her first time climbing on the couch.
