I'm a subscriber and have been watching your channel for a long time, but haven't ever taken the time to let you know how much I enjoy it. I especially enjoy the build portion, and I'm glad you don't leave out anything. I enjoy the length of your programs for sure. I'm 70 years old and just getting started in rc Planes. I was given a Hobby Zone Sportsman S+, and I just love it. I have crashed it a couple of times due to my depth perception around trees, but I've repaired it and ready to go again. Thank you for taking your time to read this. Thumbs up to you and the "camera crew", please keep producing these wonderful videos.
@BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
We're glad you're here with us, and very glad you enjoy the IN DEPTH look. We get a bit of grief for longer videos, but every time I look into it, I can't figure out an area that could be clipped without losing an important aspect, something that might help a newer flier trying to get over the hump. The technology makes for a very steep learning curve, and so many want to gloss over this, as though it weren't a factor...it IS. Crashing due to depth perception is a tough reality of poor vision...but it is not a skill you will "earn" without many tears and lots of CA ;) I'm very fortunate to see well these days, but grew up and spent the majority of my life being "Blind" - not legally, but pretty bad. After LasicPlus, I can see well, but DEPTH perception is not a skill that will keep you out of trees...this is a learned skill....obviously, some part of it has to do with natural vision ability, but what REALLY helps me is practice in an area. Really KNOWING your surroundings, seeing shadows as you're flying...this helps a TON. You have to pay attention to where the sun is in the sky, and where the shadows pass under the plane, and onto trees, and over buildings, etc...this will give you tell tell signs of your general location. If in doubt, give yourself a wide berth, but when you think you've got it, you will eventually find out you didn't - LOL - I've done it WAY too many times, but it's worth it to enjoy the tight surroundings, and it makes for more interesting videos, at least, I think ;) I hope you'll continue on, and we've glad you're here with us Buster! Thanks for the kind words, and we are honored to be helping you in some small way!

Cool plane! It’s above my experience level, but I’m definitely interested in seeing more Hangar 9 stuff on the channel! I too would’ve literally (figuratively) killed for something like this as a kid lol. I grew up in the era where RC aircraft were unimaginably out of reach, and the cars took 9 hours to charge for 2 minutes of operation, and maybe 30 seconds of full power before the battery went soft. Re your problem of the aileron linkage fouling the servo cover, you could easily resolve this by coming in a hole or two on the aileron horn. That will give more throw on the control surface without the need to have excessive servo movement.

Did you know you can use a very small thin washer on top of the ball link after you snap your link on for more added safety keeping the link from popping off due to vibration or wear preventing a catastrophic ending to a flight. I have learned this the hard way. I like having redundancy when it comes to safety. I would've also isolated the RX with a thin foam pad under it and secured with small Velcro straps. Vibration on any plane is not healthy no matter if electric or gas. Just my two cents.
@BrianPhillipsRC2 жыл бұрын
I don't deal with larger/heavier planes much, so I'll keep that idea in mind! As for the vibration, yes, it's hard on everything, but I guess when you're dealing with an electric plane, there's minimal vibration compared to gas. I just haven't had issues with this in the past, on my planes, but in my industrial career vibration has been a huge source of job security ;)
@Wheezmaster20122 жыл бұрын
@@BrianPhillipsRC It's kind of ironic as I am a 35-45% giant scale aerobatic gasser guy transitioning to small foam electrics. I feel like I have to learn all over again. Brian and Camera Crew, great video with good detail. I started looking at your video after I already committed to a path but it was still helpful. I installed an AR8360T with NX8 and set it up with 2 ailerons and 2 flaps which filled up all but channel 8 of the receiver. Now I am heading into the AS3X but hesitate when I see I only have one channel left. I hope to have switch B, FM1= Safe envelope type, FM2 = AS3X mid gains, FM3 = Normal inhibit with no automation. To set up AS3X and select FM on B involves also the gain control on trim or knob. Have any ideas on how to approach this? I know one way is to reconfigure flaps to a Y connection like you did on the AR637T perhaps. Are there other degrees of freedom?
@BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
If you get it to work, you are going to have to do magic - been there, FAILED at that - you'll run out of channels. If I were you, I'd SERIOUSLY consider putting the FLAPS back on ONE channel, and get back that CHANNEL, and you'll be WAY more likely to find success. Flight modes are weird, and I'm only just now starting to use them. I KNOW you'll have some fun with your flap mode to safe / as3x intensities...since you still need a channel for their control. Also, maybe just get her flying well, THEN split out the flaps??? Just a thought - then you won't need the additional GAIN channel like I think you will.

Brian just a thought when you read these I'm a beginner pilot have flown The apprentice and the timber turbo timber you kind of I wonder if I should just leave this plane for a project in a couple years and find something else that's easier to fly I'm certainly not a level three pilot I can't fly like you you know I both mostly go around in circles and figure eights and stuff like that so any advice you could give me on that would be appreciated thanks Brian John
@BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
Not the worst idea, but keep in mind, we fly in a tight area. With enough room, this plane would be "easy to fly" ;)

An easier method instead of a mix is to go into Digital switch setup and then you can directly set the value for each position of the switch. Default is 100,0,-100. Change it to 100,-100,-100.
@BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
Good idea! I will give that a try. Thanks Ryker RC!!! So many was to "skin this cat" and can never think of the easier, but sounds like you got a LOT easier way!

I had the same issues with my dx8, the smart initially wanted to alarm at 4.1v per cell... Great when it works but I don't trust smart tech yet over my simple cheap lipo alarm that beeps at low voltage, just do a slow pass every now and then and listen for it.
@BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
It's a startup thing. There's some latency in the readings for voltage, but then it goes away, after you get this moronic setting turned off, then it's all good ;)
@SiR2Dean3 жыл бұрын
@@BrianPhillipsRC I personally don't understand why HH are trying to "re-invent the wheel" the original lipo batteries with a normal balance port are so much better. Non of the spektrum battery family can be charged at more than 1c the lowest on my other packs is 5c... crazy
@kevincarter71023 жыл бұрын
I always knew you had a big Stick...!! Hey my local spot I fly is gravel with small rocks. Would that destroy those kind of wheel covers?
@BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Kevin!!! As for the rocks, humm...if they would, you can take them off fairly easy. The gaps are the consideration...and they are fairly tight. I'd say probably good idea to pull your pants off - LOL ;)

I've confirmed from Andy Kunz the Not Charged for Flying Alarm is a bug. He tells me it is fixed in Airware 3.7. You get the alarm when using the Avian Smart ESC. Yes, it is very annoying.

Flies more competently than it looks. Got to say I nearly choked when I tagged the link to see the price tag! For a balsa plane?

It's all built thought...not like a kit. Kit's are about 1/3 to 1/4 the cost of a flying plane - just keep that in mind. Not cheap, I agree, but if it were an ARF, you'd be in it a LOAD more, I bet ;)

What is crow ? Please explain . Thank You .
@BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
I do in the video. It's flaps and spoilerons simultaneously. Works good for slowing the plane down without giving up control of roll authority.

I love your videos, Brian....Very educational...Sorry, but, what does “ crow “ mean?
@BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
Crow is a setting where the ailerons both go UP and act as SPOILERS AND AILERONS all the while, the flaps are DOWN...this helps slow down the plane, lower stall speed, reduce lift, and increase drag, all the while without losing Roll authority. Very cool!

As a kid for me looking through the magazines it was the satabria I just love that plane I built that one with the stars on it you know what was it called I can't remember but the day it had a big deal sheet of stars with thick blue lines and that that's as close as I've come this is tavia but that was the thing that I used to dream about at night as I was flying by control line airplanes in grade 3

Yeah, it's pricy when you add everything up - $750+ for the whole shabang, IF you have Tx already....but this is pretty typical for a plane of this build quality.
