I spent my life in radio. I’m 70 in June. I used to think my overall knowledge of music was pretty good. Then....I found joes channel. Who would’ve thought I would be pursuing my “Masters Degree in music “ at my age. I’ve learned that not only are these folks talented beyond belief, but they are even nicer than I could imagine. Without getting maudlin......you have no idea how much these installments mean to an old radio guy.

Great interview! Love those Elvis stories! When I was a kid my aunt Jean was a big Elvis fan. She and Uncle Kenny took us kids to the drive-in to see G.I. Blues, his first movie after the army. Us kids just wore our pajamas but sure didn't fall asleep with Elvis on the screen! Two of my favorite guitar players are named Duane - Eddy and Allman. Thanks Joe.

I have been able to meet and become friends with the man..voice and music that turned me on to rock and roll and shaped my life. I was never able to meet Merle, my other hero I missed going to his bus with Delbert Smart by 10 minutes...missed the call. He was everything to me as far as a life long hero. You can tell it affected Duane for life meeting Elvis. Thanks, Joe..

It is interesting that the people you see as superior musicians have their own idols that influence them. When you hear the stories behind the scenes you find out there is not much separating rock and roll from country or any other genre of music. Good music transcends all barriers. Thanks for another interesting interview Joe.

Thank you too James... yes what’s cool is even the Beatles had musicians that they loved like we loved them. George Harrison told Duane’s wife , Deed, that it use to be them standing in the rain outside Duane’s London hotel room hoping to get a glimpse of him:) Even the Beatles had their Beatles like Duane, Elvis, Chet, Chuck Berry to look up to. @@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum It seems the greats are inspired by other greats. It's really cool to hear the early British rock and roll bands talk about their influences. From people like the early Delta blues artist to Elvis the king, The Everly Brothers and of course Buddy Holly. I try to listen to all of the interviews from British artist. I enjoy anything I can learn about the history of music. I believe music is very important to everyone, even if they don't appreciate it. Thank you Joe for your interviews. You are layed back and seem to relax whoever you are interviewing. That in turn makes the artist open up about their past. It helps a lot that everyone you have interviewed seems like humble, down to earth good people.

Great interview Joe! Listening to Duane one can tell that he really misses those early days, as we all do I guess. What I always liked about Elvis is that, when he was drafted, he served his time in the Army just like everyone else & didn't want any special treatment. He was stationed in Germany. I was also stationed in Germany from 66' to 68', so I know how he spent his time as a PFC & it wasn't all fun and games! Anyway, hope that you are doing well & staying safe...... 👍👍😉😉

You have a great way of conducting interviews that brings the viewer right into the room with your guests. Much the way Duane Eddy must have felt backstage with Mother Maybelle that night. You ask the question, then sit back and let your guest go on and on with his or her response. A talent of interviewing only very few hosts have. Always great listening to these great guests from the past who made music as we knew it in the 50's and 60's, both country and rock n roll.

Ain’t it funny how people in his time all speak highly of Elvis both black and white in all kinds of genres about his music and impact yet today we get a lot of Elvis bashing hating by people who were mostly born after he died

Joe, did you ever get a chance to interview Scotty Moore?

Sure newking... Scotty was a great friend and one of my first one or two interviews. He was the first musician to actually donate .... not try and sell a instrument to the museum. It was at his house/studio. It’s on our MHOF “Vault Series” channel..best, Joe

I seem to recall that Duane said he had been a big Chet fan and like Chet used a thumb pick. One day, Al Casey asked to borrow Duane's thumb pick- and he promptly broke it in half giving him back the pick part- Duane's introduction to using a flat pick out of necessity!

@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum It's in the wonderful book that comes in the Bear Family Box Set- page 10. It's a quote from Al Casey mentioning that Duane was reluctant to move away from the thumb pick! So, Al Casey decided to make the change for him! There's so much great info in that book- probably the best for Duane's pre-RCA output.
