@MusicONplaces It did happen, just no camping. Bit of a trek for me otherwise. My first Guilfest was very early 00s. Down The King's Head for a prefestival pint, last to leave, first back for breakfast. Good times.

I first seen the stranglers live in 1979 and they totally blew me away. The last time was in 2022. It's been a complete privilege to see them over 100 times . I've also met j.j on 2 occasions and hugh after he left the stranglers. They have gone few a few changes over the years but they are still the best live band I've ever seen. I was lucky enough to bump into baz and catch a quick word with him as he was entering the 02 through a side door with Dave Greenfield just before a gig in Birmingham. We should appreciate the stranglers while they still are performing live because one day there will be know more stranglers and what a sad day for live music that will be.

Hi and many thanks for your excellent and so interesting comment and anecdote. You are so privileged for having been so close to this mind blowing band ! Especially seeing them in 1979, in his first phase, it’s also a huge pleasure having met JJ and Hugh, I wish I could one day, also Dave Greenfield who for myself is one the greatest keyboardist of Britain and all over the world, sadly he’s not with us anymore. How was the experience of having met personally ? Indeed we should appreciate The Stranglers as they are still playing and still giving such amazing presentations. I hope I am complying with this humble tribute. Again! You are so lucky for having taken advantage of The Stranglers in that glorious way. did you have the opportunity to see them at Wembley alongside AC/DC ? Warmest regards 🎸🎶

Dave Greenfield didn't know The Doors when The Stranglers already have recorded quite a lot songs - according to Dave Greenfield. So the Ray Manzarek influence is likely not quite true...

Hey mate, alright, apologies for the misunderstanding, we can negate that both Ray and Dave sound superb, cheers 🎸

It's interesting what you say about Dave Greenfield and his influences, one definitely was Ray Manzarek. Not only "Peaches" can show this, but also "Hanging Around" or "No More Heroes", also their cover of "Walk on by". Dave is my favorite as well.

@@ABlokeCalledDaz Hi, it's very interesting how strong is the connection between The Doors and The Stranglers! there is no doubt Dave Greenfield took influence from Ray Manzarek, their both solos are virtuous and mindblowing. The were essentially were a Punk band at the beginning, until their contemporaries shunned them, before they were signed and the Clash had not even started the Stranglers were sharing venues with the Damned and the Sex Pistols.

Hi, many thanks for your very interesting comment. It is definitely a not so well known story about the bands who The Stranglers played with, both great The Damned and The Sex Pistols. Did you also know The Stranglers had played with AC/DC in Wembley in the 70s? Warmest regards

Sorry, but what's with all the irrelevant filming of Guildford?, they never played in the Holroyd, why are you interviewing people from the West Midlands?, you haven't mentioned anything about other places they played like the Guildford University, showed where they practiced at Shalford scout hut, or anywhere else where they lived, worked etc.
@MusicONplaces3 ай бұрын
Hi! many thanks for you feedback, I quite appreciate your views. You're right, there's so much more to explore around Guildford with regards The Stranglers' history in Guildford; I just meant to give a visual introduction of the town. I'll definitely consider covering more specific locations like the University and Shalford in the future. When I mentioned The Holroyd, I did not mean to say they had played there, but I stayed there as I could not find a room in The Angel Hotel, where Probably they were for social or music gigs, sorry for the confusion caused. When interviewing people from the Midlands, was because I was no longer in Guildford, but in the Midlands and I believed I found The Stranglers fans there and I actually did, they truly appreciate the band and thought this would be a good complement for this humble geographical tribute to the band, capturing perspectives from various fans, including those outside Guildford; however, it would also have good to interview Guildford locals, I will consider that for the future. Your views help me so much improve, so again, thanks for this. Warmest regards 🎸

Knowing that they practised at Shalford is brilliant This IS exactly what makes a band like the Stranglers real I remember going to see Bad Company in 1974 (70's COCK ROCK - what was Paul Rogers thinking of ???) Buying chips afterwards there was graffiti on a wall - THE STRANGLERS ARE COMING TO GET YOU A couple of years later they did !!!! The bus ride through Shalford will never be the same again

@@christhepostmanpoet6618 know that I almost cried with that anecdote, I can imagine a JJ Burnell making a graffiti outside the Bad Co gig, that's incredible, they performed alongside ACDC on 1976 and even being AC/DC they did not show respect according to media, that is to say, they were being The Stranglers that's it, probably the rudest but most powerful band! I love them, btw, how was that Fish and Chips that day? just curious, Rock on!
